Rose Bowl 2017: USC vs. Penn State Live Score and Highlights
USC 52, Penn State 49โFinal
Two of college football's hottest teams put on a sensational show in the Rose Bowl on Monday, as USC scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and won on a last-second, 46-yard field goal.
The Trojans (10-3) raced out to a sizable lead, scoring the game's first 13 points. But like they did all season, the Nittany Lions (11-3) bounced back from a rough start, using 28 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to take a 14-point lead into the fourth.
Penn State unleashed an offensive barrage, scoring touchdowns on seven consecutive possessions, and it looked like USC had run out of gas. But the Trojans fought back, using a Ronald Jones touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to make it a 49-42 game.
USC got the ball back with two minutes to go, needing 80 yards to force overtime. Sam Darnold led his team on a quick scoring drive that he capped with a 27-yard touchdown strike to Deontay Burnett to help tie the game.
Penn State had more than a minute to move into field-goal range, but Trace McSorley threw a disastrous interception that was returned by Leon McQuay III to the Nittany Lions 33. After a short run to center the ball, Matt Boermeester kicked the field goal of his life to seal the Rose Bowl for the Trojans.
