West Virginia vs. Texas: Live Score, Highlights, for Mountaineers vs. Longhorns
It was anything but easy for West Virginia at Texas Saturday. The Longhorns battled until the final play, but when Shane Buechele's last toss to the end zone fell short, West Virginia (No. 16 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings) escaped with a 24-20 victory.
The Mountaineers jumped to a 17-3 second-quarter lead and ultimately held on, although Buechele and Texas' offense had a spirited comeback and never let WVU pull away. West Virginia improves to 8-1 overall and has a crucial home game next week versus Oklahoma, which will play a big role in the Big 12 title race.
Meanwhile, Texas falls to 5-5 with games remaining against Kansas and TCU, meaning the debate on Charlie Strong's future will rage on for at least another two weeks. A bowl bid appears to be a lock, given that Kansas is perhaps the worst Power Five college football team, but who'll coach the Longhorns in it remains unanswered.
