KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — All those positive vibes Tennessee built in a 5-1 start in which it became a national darling with all its second-half heroics disappeared in a crimson cloud Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium.

Top-ranked Alabama annihilated the Volunteers 49-10 in front of a disappointed crowd, and it really should have been worse than that. Coach Nick Saban's team dominated every aspect of the game, out-gaining UT 594-163 and pouring it on a Vols team depleted with injuries.

It was Tennessee's worst loss in the series since a 51-0 final in 1906.

Freshman phenom quarterback Jalen Hurts had three rushing touchdowns and 275 total yards. Running backs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris weren't to be stopped, either.

As Alabama appears to be cruising toward its showdowns with Texas A&M and LSU to see if it can get back to Atlanta, the Vols now need help to make it to the championship game. They've lost two consecutive games after winning the first five of the year.

The Vols trailed 21-7 at halftime, but there would be no comebacks in this one. Alabama was too big, too deep and too talented. Instead, the Tide were the aggressors, never leaving a doubt.
