Iowa State Football Players Save Woman from Sinking Car While on Spring Break
Forget football players—the guys on Iowa State are heroes.
Two weeks ago, several Cyclones rescued 22-year-old Luisa Maria Castro from a sinking car in the Laguna Bay off the coast of Texas. After seeing the car dip into a canal, the players immediately sprung from their hotel into action.
This was no easy rescue.

“I was getting worried that we were going to watch this girl drown to death, because no matter how hard we were hitting it, it wasn’t cracking or for a while,” linebacker Anthony said.
Eventually, , Jack and former player Joe Doran were able to crack the windshield and pull Castro through, thus saving her life.
“That car completely sank in less than a minute and if not for them jumping into the water and pulling the driver out, she would most certainly have drowned,” officer Michael said in a statement to the Des Moines Register.
Castro was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, which explains how she ended up in this situation.
Luckily for her, the spring-breaking Cyclones were there.
“I have no words to express how appreciative I am of them,” Castro said. “Even when I messaged them, I still felt that the words or what I was saying to them to thank them and how grateful I was—it just felt like that wasn’t enough.”
