4-Star James Robinson Details Visit Plans, Schools Recruiting Him the Hardest

ORLANDO, Fla. — One of the top skill players in attendance at the Orlando Nike Opening Regional last weekend was 4-star receiver James Robinson.

The 6’3”, 190-pounder from Lakeland, Florida—who is the No. 8 receiver and the No. 35 player overall in the 2017 cycle—was one of the top in-state prospects on hand at the event.

For Robinson, the camp was just the latest part of an offseason he said is being spent on improving the details in his game.

“Everything is going good. I’m just staying busy and putting in work in the offseason—even during the weekend with seven-on-seven work. I’m just trying to get better with the little things,” Robinson told Bleacher Report.

While he is busy working on his game, the No. 10 overall prospect from the Sunshine State has managed to devote some time to sorting out his recruitment.

According to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, Robinson already attended a junior day at Clemson last month.

Next up on his agenda is to visit a pair of in-state powers.

“Probably in the beginning of March, I want to see Miami and Florida,” Robinson said.

Florida is one of four programs that Robinson singled out as schools currently making a strong push for his commitment.

“Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Florida. Ever since those programs started to recruit me, they have been on me pretty hard,” he said.

However, out of the programs among his 23 reported offers, there is one coach who he notes he has built the closest bond with.

“The coach I have [the] best relationship with right now is [Clemson co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach] Jeff Scott,” Robinson said.

Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney and his staff are no stranger to adding dynamic skill players from the state of Florida to their roster, and Robinson appears to be their primary focus in the Sunshine State in the 2017 cycle.

The Tigers already have a pledge from 4-star receiver Amari Rodgers, and they are heavily involved with Robinson and 5-star Tee Higgins. Adding Robinson to their class could put them closer to landing a receiver class among the nation’s elite.

However, Robinson—who noted that he hasn’t finalized a timeline for his decision—still has a few schools that he is hoping to hear from in the near future.

“Michigan State, Arizona State and some of the other West Coast schools,” he said.

Regardless of when his decision goes down, there are two factors he said will weigh heavily in that choice.

“[It will come down to] my relationship with the coaches and if the school feels like it’s a family,” Robinson said.
