No. 1 2017 Recruit Dylan Moses Reportedly Has New Top 5

Brian PedersenDec 31, 2015

The top-ranked player of the 2017 recruiting class has reportedly narrowed down his list of schools, a final five that comprises some of the best programs in the country.

Dylan Moses is deciding between Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Texas, with Alabama currently holding the lead in that battle, per ESPN's Derek Tyson. He tweeted the information Thursday from the Future 50 Experience in Orlando, held in conjunction with Saturday's Under Armour All-America Game.

Moses, a 6'2", 220-pound prospect from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, plays both running back and outside linebacker for University Laboratory School. 247Sports has him as the top overall player in its 2017 composite rankings mostly because of his defensive numbers, having recorded 328.5 tackles in his first two high school seasons.

"Moses is one of the premier athletes in the 2017 cycle," Bleacher Report recruiting expert Sanjay Kirpalani said. "At linebacker, he's an animal who can disrupt offenses in so many ways. The last recruit from Louisiana who was known in recruiting circles as a high school freshman was Leonard Fournette, so that's the company Moses is in athletically."

Added Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles: "Dylan is the classic pick-your-poison athlete. As a linebacker, he's a sideline-to-sideline guy who has made great improvements since freshman year. He has a great nose for the football. As a running back, he's one of those guys who won't get tackled by one guy. Bring the crew with you if you're looking to make a play on him."

He'd previously committed to LSU in September 2013 but then backed off that pledge in August. Since then Moses has had three unofficial visits with the Tigers—who have garnered 92 percent of projections in 247Sports' Crystal Ball predictor—and on Nov. 7 visited Alabama during its home win over LSU.

Moses has also weighed in on the college football playoffs, making his pick earlier this month:

According to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com, this is the second year in a row Moses will have participated in the Future 50. He's one of five players from Louisiana at the event.

The teams in Moses' final five currently have a combined 22 commits for 2017, per 247Sports. That includes Breon Dixon, the No. 12 outside linebacker, who has pledged to Georgia.
