Tyler DonohueOct 28, 2015

The identity of high school football title contenders is often forged in October, as teams enter that pivotal final postseason push. It's the ideal time for elite playmakers to rise up and validate praise, leading teammates toward a common goal.

Several 5-star prospects stepped into the spotlight and embraced the pressure this month, managing to match and even exceed immense expectations created by expansive college recruiting attention.

Here's a close look at top-tier athletes who showcased their skills across the country in October.

WR Kyle Davis

1 of 7

Class: 2016

High School: Archer (Lawrenceville, Georgia)

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 1 wide receiver; No. 22 overall

Recruitment Status: Offers include Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee

Highlights of the Month

It can be difficult to locate consistency at the wide receiver position in high school, even when you're sorting through the nation's top prospects. Kyle Davis is an exception, as he's managed to make an impact in all eight games this season.

The rangy playmaker averaged 28 yards per reception in October, according to MaxPreps, helping Archer pull away for four consecutive blowout victories. He needed just two catches to rack up 131 receiving yards against South Gwinnett and took both passes to the end zone.

Davis, who is 6'1.5" and 218 pounds, now has four scores on 28 receptions this season. He's approaching career-best totals with 566 yards through two months of action.

RB Najee Harris

2 of 7

Class: 2017

High School: Antioch (Antioch, California)

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 1 running back; No. 6 overall

Recruitment Status: Committed to Alabama

Highlights of the Month

Folks searching for Alabama's next big-time back should set their sights on West Coast standout Najee Harris. The 6'2", 220-pound Crimson Tide commit collected another 722 rushing yards during his past three games, according to MaxPreps.

Harris rumbled for 360 yards and six scores in the most recent matchup, a 55-37 win over Liberty. He erupted for four runs of at least 46 yards, as noted by Nate Smith of the Contra Costa Times, including a game-opening 59-yard burst.

His 12.6-yards-per-carry average through eight contests serves as a strong indication of Harris' burgeoning abilities. Harris is on pace to easily surpass 2,000 rushing yards for a second straight season, finding the end zone 25 total times to this point.

"All the 5-star stuff, I don't really care about all that," Harris told Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles. "I don't look back and say, 'I'm the No. 1 running back. I should be able to do this or do that.' I just want to go out, play and win."

QB Shawn Robinson

3 of 7

Class: 2017

High School: Guyer (Denton, Texas)

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 2 dual-threat; No. 16 overall

Sensational Lone Star State junior Shawn Robinson relies on his arm and legs to routinely beat defenses. Both elements of the dual-threat package shined in three games this month.

The 6'3", 207-pound prospect gained 176 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in Guyer's most recent matchup, a narrow loss to Keller Central High School. It was Robinson's third 100-yard rushing performance of the season, according to MaxPreps.

His passing abilities took care of the job in two preceding victories. Robinson connected for 483 yards and seven scores combined in those contests, adding another rushing touchdown against Fossil Ridge High School.

He now has 66 offensive touchdowns since 2014, accumulating 5,898 total yards in the process.

Has a sophomore season ever looked so smooth for a young quarterback?

Top-ranked 2018 recruit Trevor Lawrence is making his case as one of the premier underclassman passers we've scouted this decade. The 6'5", 191-pound prospect already possesses the physical tools to succeed against elevated talent and is posting eye-popping production to match that potential.

Lawrence completed 61 percent of his passes in four October victories, according to MaxPreps, tossing 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions. His efforts included 1,057 total offensive yards and a pair of rushing scores.

He's helped keep Cartersville out of the loss column this season, setting the stage for a pivotal November slate of showdowns. Lawrence has thrown for 5,025 yards and 52 touchdowns in his brief high school career.

"It's good to say I'm the No. 1 quarterback in this class, but that doesn't mean that I'm better than everyone else just because of the rankings," he told Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles. "I have to show that hard work pays off, and I have to prove it every Friday night."
