Most Important College Football Recruiting Visits of Week 8

Tyler DonohueOct 22, 2015

Another action-packed weekend of college football is nearly upon us and, as usual, there's plenty to monitor beyond the playing field. Prospects throughout the nation have set travel plans, hoping to push their respective recruitments closer to a conclusion.

Top-ranked tight end Isaac Nauta and dynamic California playmaker Melquise Stovall headline this latest group of athletes on the move. It's imperative for host programs to make a positive impression during a limited time frame.

Here's a closer look at key campus visits to monitor during the days to come.

Ole Miss: 5-Star TE Isaac Nauta

1 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida)

Size: 6'4", 237 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 1 tight end; No. 9 overall

Isaac Nauta will reach the midway point of his recruitment process this weekend when he travels to Oxford. Trips to Michigan and Georgia are in the rearview mirror, while TCU and Alabama await their turns.

The 2016 class' top-ranked pass-catcherregardless of position—will enjoy the journey alongside Shea Patterson, his IMG Academy quarterback. Patterson, named Elite 11 MVP in July, is a fellow 5-star prospect and the face of this Rebels recruiting class.

"We have excellent chemistry on the field, so obviously if I do go to Ole Miss that would benefit me," Nauta told Bleacher Report. "Shea is a great quarterback and we've definitely developed a good relationship playing together. He's one of those guys who can really lead an offense and get everyone on the same page."

Expect Patterson to push for his pledge just as hard as any member of the Ole Miss coaching staff.

"Isaac is one of my best friends. We hang out off the field all the time. We think alike and we click together," he told Bleacher Report. "The chance to keep playing together for the next few years at college would be tough to pass up. I'd love to have him at Ole Miss, but I understand he has a lot of options."

Nauta, a former Florida State pledge, plans to reveal his final choice Jan. 9 at the Army All-American Bowl.

Miami: 4-Star WR Ahmmon Richards

2 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Wellington (West Palm Beach, Florida)

Size: 6'2", 180 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 37 wide receiver; No. 197 overall

It's important for the Hurricanes to ensure wide receiver depth in this cycle as top-rated commit Sam Bruce continues to explore alternative options at Florida and Ohio State. In-state standout Ahmmon Richards is a crucial part of the equation.

He pledged to Miami before his junior season and continues to maintain that verbal pact. Auburn and Alabama are among those tempting him to enroll elsewhere next year, so the Hurricanes staff will aim to further solidify things with Richards during his latest visit to the university.

His senior season has been nothing short of spectacular to this stage. Richards has recorded 47 receptions for 1,010 yards and 14 touchdowns during Wellington's first eight games, per MaxPreps.

He's been a scoring machine in high school, tallying 38 total touchdowns since 2014.

Oregon State: 3-Star DE Isaac Garcia

3 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Bellevue (Bellevue, Washington)

Size: 6'4", 215 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 26 weak-side defensive end; No. 389 overall

Isaac Garcia, a dynamic two-way talent for Northwest powerhouse Bellevue, pays a visit to the Beavers this weekend. Head coach Gary Andersen is attempting to improve a 2016 recruiting class that currently rates 60th overall in the composite rankings, and the Washington star would be an outstanding starting point for those efforts.

After traveling to Utah last weekend, Corvallis is next on the docket for Garcia. Bellevue teammate Tyson Penn, a 3-star wide receiver, pledged to Oregon State this summer.

"I'm looking to experience the environment, the coaches and how the program is run," Garcia told Andrew Nemec of the Oregonian. "I hear a lot of good things. ... I  just want to see Oregon State and experience it for myself."

Garcia, viewed as a potential impact player at defensive end or tight end, initially committed to USC, but backed off that verbal pact earlier this year. Arizona State is another potential Pac-12 landing spot.

Rutgers: 3-Star ATH Henry Miller

4 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Gateway (Kissimmee, Florida)

Size: 6'3", 191 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 57 athlete; No. 792 overall

Henry Miller may not carry an eye-opening rating in the composite rankings, but his scholarship offer list tells a different tale. He holds more than 30 collegiate opportunities, including offers from Michigan State, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Louisville.

Widely viewed as a rangy defensive back, he presents phenomenal length at a position often lacking that kind of size. Miller, who also plans to use official visits at North Carolina State and Mississippi State this season, heads north for the Scarlet Knights' prime-time matchup with defending national champion Ohio State.

It's the kind of showcase event Rutgers envisioned when it made the leap into Big Ten competition, presenting an opportunity to play in front of a national television audience. Among those expected to attend the game in person, you won't find many more pivotal than Miller.

The Scarlet Knights once flourished recruiting Florida prospects, as those efforts helped build a substantial portion of a roster that helped the program rise in stature under former head coach Greg Schiano. Now Kyle Flood and his staff aim to make further inroads on the Sunshine State recruiting scene with Miller emerging as a top target.

Arizona: 4-Star RB Melquise Stovall

5 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Paraclete (Lancaster, California)

Size: 5'8", 180 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 4 all-purpose back; No. 170 overall

Electric athlete Melquise Stovall is a prized prospect in Pac-12 territory, commanding major interest from several conference members. Fresh off a visit to Utah, he heads to Tucson this weekend to spend time with the Wildcats.

Stovall, one of the most versatile offensive weapons in his class, will also attempt to visit Cal, Boise State and Arizona State this season, per Greg Biggins of Scout.com. His first official visit took place last month when he traveled to Notre Dame.

The former USC commit could end up contributing as a running back or wide receiver at Arizona. He's exactly the type of dynamic weapon that can flourish as a key cog in Rich Rodriguez's attack.

“I’m open to any position,” Stovall told USA Today. “I prefer slot receiver, but I can play running back. I see myself as an offensive athlete. I can play defense, but I prefer to play offense in college.”

He averaged 8.1 yards per carry as a junior en route to 1,603 rushing yards, per MaxPreps, and added 21 receptions for 415 yards. The 24-touchdown campaign included a punt return and interception return for scores.

Like Nauta, Stovall plans to announce collegiate intentions at the Army All-American Bowl.
