2017 Logan Rudolph, Brother of Oklahoma State QB, Lands B1G, Big 12 Offers

Damon SaylesOct 8, 2015

Rock Hill, South Carolina 2017 prospect Logan Rudolph was there for every offer that older brother Mason Rudolph received during his time being recruited as a national top-300 player in the 2014 class. He's also been one of his brother's biggest supporters, as Mason has led Oklahoma State to a 5-0 record and, most recently, earned Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors this week.

Now, it's Logan's turn to attract the college scouts, and this week has been a productive one for the 3-star, two-way standout at Northwestern High School. Rudolph picked up arguably his highest-profile offer thus far in Michigan on Wednesday, and Thursday morning, he added arguably his most sentimental offer from Oklahoma State.

Rudolph said Michigan tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh offered him as a tight end. Thursday morning, he called Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy, who offered him as a "Cowboy back," who can line up in multiple positions for blocking and passing plays.

"It's definitely a huge offer and a huge opportunity," Rudolph said of both offers. "[Head] Coach [Jim] Harbaugh has had some great NFL success, and I feel he'll have great college success. That's a Big Ten powerhouse school, and they're on the rise. They have great academics and massive facilities.

"[Getting the Oklahoma State offer] was awesome. There are great coaches out there. I couldn't be more excited. It's just an awesome opportunity, and I feel that God's blessed me."

Rudolph now has eight offers, including Kentucky, Duke and East Carolina. Every school except Duke has offered him as an offensive contributor. Rudolph said Duke extended an offer for him to play defensive end. He's a competitor on both sides of the ball for Northwestern.

Rudolph received news about the Michigan offer Wednesday morning and said he found a moment to contact his older brother after classes.

"We talked about it briefly, and he's extremely pumped," Rudolph said of his brother. "He's really been encouraging me and telling me to keep working hard."

Of course, this was before Rudolph received the news that he picked up an Oklahoma State offer. Rudolph heard from his brother that the coaching staff was planning on offering him, but nothing had been finalized until Thursday.

The Rudolph brothers have always been close. Will they be teammates in 2017?

It's a big offer for a player who looks up to his older brother. Rudolph said playing as his brother's teammate is something the two have discussed, but an Oklahoma State offer doesn't guarantee the reunion of the two.

"That would be cool," Rudolph said of calling his brother a college teammate, "but again, that's not going to make my decision. I need to find the best fit for me."

Whichever school lands Rudolph will get an athlete who can line up at tight end, H-back, fullback or even wide receiver on offense, and defensive end and possibly outside linebacker in the right defensive system. That school also will get an unselfish player who said he'll "do whatever the team needs" to get a victory.

Rudolph is a 6'3", 220-pound athlete who averages nearly 16 yards a catch and has a receiving touchdown on offense for Northwestern. Defensively, Rudolph has 33 tackles, eight sacks, three caused fumbles and an interception.

Rudolph defines himself as "an all-out player." He doesn't take plays off, and when his number is called, he makes it a priority to go above and beyond to make a play.

In short, Rudolph loves the physical nature of the sport.

"I think all college coaches love physicality," he said. "If you put that on tape and you see someone with a motor and going hard, they'll love that. That's what my game is based on. I'm a guy willing to sacrifice my body to help the team. I'm not afraid of contact."

Rudolph also is a player who refuses to quit, a characteristic that his older brother also possesses. Mason Rudolph led Oklahoma State to a 36-34, come-from-behind win against Kansas State over the weekend, in which he threw for 437 yards and three touchdowns. It was the fourth time in eight career starts he led the Cowboys to a win when the team trailed at halftime.

Playing college ball is a dream for Rudolph, and he now has several options that will run through his mind. Michigan has the tradition and the prestige. Oklahoma State has the camaraderie and a family mentor in his big brother. Rudolph also recently had a visit to Kentucky and said he likes what Duke has to offer.

For now, Rudolph said he's just going to focus on improving as a player, which could parlay into additional offers.

"It's all just surreal," Rudolph said. "I never really knew my brother and I would make it this far. We've definitely been blessed. It's awesome to see him playing, and I know in the long run, he's going to do well. I just hope I can uphold the family name, as well, wherever I go."
