B/R Recruiting Notebook: 4-Star Eyes 3 Visits, Sleeper QBs Dominate Stat Sheets
Shutdown cornerbacks are a luxury for any college football team. Florida State and LSU have the nation's top-ranked 2016 cornerbacks committed in Levonta Taylor and Saivion Smith, respectively.
Trayvon Mullen is the cornerback next in line, and he's indeed a wanted man. As the nation's No. 3 cornerback, Mullen has 46 reported offers, but he reiterated on Sunday that he is still wide-open with his recruitment.
Mullen tweeted in July that Florida State, Oregon, TCU, Ohio State and LSU were front-runners for official visits. He also tweeted that with a three-word caveat: "Things can change."
On Sunday, Mullen updated Bleacher Report with his potential plans. No official visits have been set, but three schools are in excellent position to receive one before national signing day in February.
"I'm not sure yet, but FSU, LSU and Clemson, I'm going to for sure," said Mullen, a 6'2", 175-pound cornerback from Pompano Beach, Florida. "It's been great just taking my time enjoying the process to make sure I make the right decision for the years I'll spend in college."
Mullen said the scheduling of his official visits will come soon, but he is currently focused on helping Coconut Creek High School win a Florida state title. He does, however, have an idea of what he wants in a school when it's time to finalize visits and, ultimately, make a decision.
He's all about the perfect environment. That, and reaching his potential of becoming one of college football's best cornerbacks.
"[I want to] see myself being humble and around great people who can help me reach my goal," Mullen said. "I also want to see if I'm going to get the best training and education."

Oklahoma nabs another California pledge
When 4-star cornerback Jordan Parker committed to Oklahoma during his official visit over the weekend, he became the Sooners' 11th overall commit and the program's top-ranked pledge of the 2016 class.
The Pittsburg, California, defensive back also became the 17th California athlete since 2012 to commit to Oklahoma. Six athletes from California schools committed to Oklahoma in the 2014 class.
What is it about the Sooners that California prospects love so much?
Bryce Youngquist, from Rancho Cucamonga, California, committed to Oklahoma in July. He said the combination of good coaching, the tradition of player development and the overall atmosphere of Norman, Oklahoma, makes for an easy sell.
"Balancing football and education is very difficult, so to achieve your goals, you must sacrifice a lot to get ahead," Youngquist said. "When you simplify things, it makes things easier. Oklahoma is the place to do all that."
Youngquist continued, "This staff has a balance there of all different types of personalities, so when one coach is trying to reach and teach, another coach has different abilities for different guys."
In Parker, Oklahoma gets a quality defender who could challenge for playing time early in his college career. Parker and Youngquist, the two California pledges in the 2016 class, are Oklahoma's top-ranked commits.

Georgia LB gives NC State visit 'a 9.5'
Back in June, Elysee Mbem-Bosse announced a top seven and also detailed an interesting life off the field for Bleacher Report. North Carolina State, a team outside his top seven this summer, got his first official visit over the weekend and set the bar high. Very high.
"I'd say it was a 9.5 [out of 10]," said Mbem-Bosse, the nation's No. 12 inside linebacker representing Ellenwood, Georgia. "I like the relationship I have with the coaches and the relationships the coaches have with the players. You can tell they all have a thing for each other. It's like a pack, and they're willing to do anything for each other."
Freshman defensive tackle Quentez Johnson, a former teammate of Mbem-Bosse's at Cedar Grove High School, served as player host for the weekend. Mbem-Bosse said he enjoyed everything from the game environment at Carter-Finley Stadium to the time spent with North Carolina State players and coaches. He especially liked the atmosphere of the game-day breakfast.
"They take the games seriously," he said. "You didn't hear anything from anyone. Everybody was focused."
Mbem-Bosse said he plans on taking his other four official visits, and while dates haven't been set, Auburn and Alabama are nearly guaranteed to get one. Other schools fighting for the two remaining visits include Oklahoma, Michigan, USC and Oregon.
Mbem-Bosse added that a verbal commitment could come before December.

Los Angeles 2017 RB gets big 1st offer
The first offer is always the toughest to get. And when that first offer comes from a respected Power Five school, it makes getting offer No. 1 that much sweeter.
For 2017 running back Drake Beasley, the first offer came close to home, as UCLA extended a scholarship Thursday. Beasley, from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, was offered by running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu.
"When I first got it, I was speechless. I didn't know what to think," said Beasley, who has 860 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns through five games this season, according to MaxPreps.com. "UCLA is a really good school. I couldn't be more grateful in getting them as my first [offer]. I wasn't expecting it. It really caught me off guard."
Beasley, a 5'11", 185-pound running back, is expected to have a long list of offers by this time next year. He currently has additional interest from Cal and Washington and has received correspondence from Notre Dame, Boston College and Oregon State.
Sleeper watch: Texas QBs dominant in same district
Two of the Dallas area's leading passers, 2-star Arkansas State pledge Logan Bonner and unrated, uncommitted Jacoby Williams, are putting up big numbers as district competitors.
Bonner, who committed to Arkansas State in April, has thrown for 1,873 yards and 17 touchdowns with only one interception through six games at Rowlett High School. Bonner's other offers include UTSA, Rice, Louisiana-Monroe and Eastern Washington.
Williams plays at Garland High School, which produced Baylor quarterback Seth Russell. Williams doesn't have any reported offers, but he has 1,536 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and only two interceptions through six games. Russell's best season at Garland, per the Dallas Morning News' Corbett Smith, came in 2011, when he threw for 1,502 yards and 12 touchdowns.
At 6'3" and 210 pounds, Williams is a pocket passer and a game manager on offense. Although he's without an offer, Williams set the school record for most touchdowns in a game with five last month. His 19 touchdowns through six games ties Russell's totals in 2010 and 2011 combined. Additionally, Williams also set school records for passing completions (25) and passing attempts (48) this season.
