Tanner Mangum Replaces Hill
Saturday, Sept. 5
BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall confirmed that Hill is out for the season, per Darnell Dickson of the Daily Herald. Jeff Call of the Deseret News added Hill is dealing with a Lisfranc issue in his foot.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Hill was a one-man wrecking crew for BYU on Saturday before leaving the field:
Hill's injury occurred on a play in which he wound up scrambling for a touchdown, shown in this Vine from Dave Noriega:
One silver lining for BYU is Hill's backup Tanner Mangum came into the game and threw a 42-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass on the final play against Nebraska to secure a 33-28 victory.
Mangum, a freshman, will be thrown into the deep end sooner than expected, so being able to build confidence in dramatic fashion bodes well for him and the Cougars.
Hill was entering his senior season at BYU. He's been beset by injuries throughout his college career, suffering a knee injury in 2012 and fractured leg last season. The one healthy year Hill has had in 2013, he was terrific throwing for 2,938 yards and running for 1,344 in 13 games.
