Wes Harris to TCU: Horned Frogs Land 4-Star OL Prospect
TCU figures to be among the nation’s most dangerous football teams this season, but the program added a piece for future success Saturday when offensive lineman prospect Wes Harris committed to the Horned Frogs.
He made the announcement on his Twitter account:
The 6’3” and 285-pound Harris checks in as a 4-star recruit in the class of 2017, per 247Sports’ composite rankings, and the No. 60-ranked overall prospect, the No. 2 offensive guard and the No. 9 prospect in the state of Texas.
As a Texas native, Harris also drew interest from Texas Tech and Tulsa (as well as California and Boise State), per 247Sports' list of interested teams. Considering Harris is a 2017 prospect, the Horned Frogs were well-served to wrap up his commitment early in the process with a number of other suitors pursuing him on the trail.
Barton Simmons of 247Sports pointed out that this was a monumentally important addition for TCU:
Harris still has a couple of years before he reaches the college level, and he is already nearly 300 pounds. It would not be a surprise if he is even more of a physical force by the time he arrives on campus, and he has impressive athleticism to go along with his strength and size.
He is a force in the running game with that build and quick enough laterally to keep edge-rushers away from the quarterback on passing downs. That combination will be important in TCU's no-huddle attack.
Now that his recruiting decision is already out of the way, Harris can focus on improving his game even more before he arrives on a potential national title contender.
