Equanimeous St. Brown Sets Decision Date: Is Notre Dame Lock to Land 4-Star WR?
The player with one of the best names and most interesting stories in college football recruiting has set his announcement date.
California wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, according to Tom Loy of 247Sports, will announce his college plans on national signing day on ESPN. He is expected to choose either Notre Dame, Stanford, Utah or Washington State, with USC and UCLA still in the hunt but on the outside looking in.
Notre Dame is considered the favorite by both 247Sports and ESPN, and if St. Brown signs with Notre Dame on Feb. 4, look for him to complete an Irish receiver class that ranks among the most solid in the country.
At 6'5" and 205 pounds, St. Brown is a smooth athlete with great hands. In comparison (and assuming he chooses Notre Dame), his playing style resembles receiver Corey Robinson. He played in the Under Armour All-America Game this month after a senior year that included 74 receptions, more than 1,200 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.
As solid as his play is, it may always be a distant second to what attracts a lot of people to him. The origin of St. Brown's full name—Equanimeous Tristan Imhotep J. St. Brown—and his lifestyle off the field was captured in 2014 by Sports Illustrated and, most recently, again by ESPN. The receiver—and his brothers, 2017 WR Osiris Adrian Amon-Ra J. St. Brown and 2018 WR Amon-Ra Julian Heru J. St. Brown—are well-rounded individuals who have lived in France, visit Germany every year and speak English, German and French fluently.
Their father is bodybuilder John Brown, a two-time Mr. Universe and three-time Mr. World champion. Their mother is German-born Miriam Brown, who makes it a priority for her sons to know and practice the German language daily.
For Equanimeous St. Brown, his game in a college uniform could one day be discussed on the same level as his name and background.
A St. Brown commitment could mean that Notre Dame enters the 2015 season with him, fellow Californian C.J. Sanders, Miles Boykin from Illinois and Jalen Guyton from Texas at receiver. St. Brown, Sanders and Boykin all are 4-star receivers, and Guyton is a 3-star talent who was the main target for 5-star Texas A&M quarterback commit Kyler Murray in high school.
St. Brown's only made two official visits during his process. He was at Notre Dame the weekend of Oct. 3, when the Irish played and defeated Stanford. St. Brown followed that trip with a visit to Utah the next month.
While the odds are in Notre Dame's favor, Stanford, Utah, Washington State, USC and UCLA all are hoping to hear their names called when St. Brown announces Feb. 4. The winner gets a rising playmaker, the nation's 19th-ranked receiver and a top-25 player from the Golden State.
