Jameis Winston Breaks FSU's Single-Season Passing TD Record vs. Florida

Brian LeighNov 30, 2013

In Florida State's 37-7 win at Florida, Jameis Winston went 19-of-31 for 327 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He only needed the first two touchdowns to break the Seminoles' record for most in a single season.

The record he broke belonged to FSU great Chris Weinke, who won the Heisman the year he threw 33 touchdowns.

His first two touchdowns came in the second quarter, both going to Kelvin Benjamin.

Benjamin is Winston's biggest receiver (6'5'', 234 lbs) and favorite target around the end zone. The duo has established a rare rapport this season that has only gotten better throughout the year.

His third touchdown also went to Benjamin, which put FSU up 34-7 in the fourth quarter.

Winston has led the Seminoles to a perfect 12-0 record in 2013, helping them ascend to No. 2 in the BCS standings and making himself the top candidate—at least when only on-field play is considered—for the Heisman Trophy.

However, it's impossible to mention Winston's season without including his pending investigation for sexual assault. No decision has been made yet on whether he will be charged, so for now he's innocent until proven guilty.

His status going forward might be in question, but no one can deny Winston's dominance this season. Johnny Manziel rewrote the record book as a redshirt freshman quarterback in 2012, and Winston's encore has been equally impressive.

This record is merely another testament to how good the 19-year-old QB has been.
