Young Texas Longhorns Fan Beats Cancer, Subsequently Asks Mack Brown to Be Fired

Gabe ZaldivarJun 8, 2018

Nolan Conaway is a 14-year old who beat cancer and has a fresh outlook on life. With amazing perspective, he jokes his beloved Texas Longhorns should fire Mack Brown

KHOU (h/t Big Lead) reports the young man was diagnosed with cancer only after a chance accident caused him to go to the hospital.

Conway is a huge Longhorns fan and even has his room painted white and burnt orange. One day he and a buddy were playing around when he fell on the left side of his head.  When he got home, "his mom Candace was immediately worried about the amount of swelling between his left eye and left ear."

The sight caused her to take her son to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a fast-growing tumor. While Conaway had been complaining about headaches long before, it was only this accident that caused him to seek medical attention.

Fortunately, the young man is doing just fine after a scary ordeal.

"

Doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital performed surgery the very next day to remove the golf-ball sized tumor and the fist-sized piece of compromised bone around it. He completed 29 chemotherapy sessions over the course of one year. And just last month, when he was declared completely cancer free, doctors installed a custom implant to replace the piece of skull they removed.

"

Cancer free, Conaway has had quite the impressive string of celebrity sightings. According to the report, he got to meet Houston Texans' J.J. Watt and country star Jason Aldean.

Now the teenager can get back to joking about far more trivial matters, like sports and the debate that surrounds this grand sphere.

When asked if the young man who had been through so much had any advice for his Texas Longhorns, he offered some.

"

“Yes sir,” the always polite young man responded. But he also laughed, “Fire Mack Brown!”

"

He may now be healthy, but it seems the last few seasons still wear on this remarkable young man.
