With the 2012 college football regular season a thing of the past, it’s time to predict the winner for every bowl that is being played on New Year’s Day.

New Year's Day is all about recovery from the previous night and enjoying the last chance to spend time with the family and friends, and everyone should be watching football to make the special day even better.

All of the following New Year’s Day classics will make the holiday even better than it already is.

Mississippi State vs. No. 20 Northwestern: TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl

Despite coming into this matchup as the ranked team, the Northwestern Wildcats will succumb to the superior defense of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and lose in the Gator Bowl.

While the Bulldogs' offensive unit isn’t all that impressive, they will have enough in the tank to exploit Northwestern’s inefficiencies.

Prediction: Mississippi State 31, Northwestern 21

Purdue vs. Oklahoma State: Heart of Texas Bowl

While the Oklahoma State Cowboys weren’t all that impressive this season, they are still light years better than the Purdue Boilermakers in 2012.

In one of the bigger routs of the day, OK State comes out with a huge win in the Heart of Texas Bowl.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 44, Purdue 24

No. 7 Georgia vs. No. 16 Nebraska: Capital One Bowl

After watching Nebraska Cornhuskers get destroyed by an unranked Wisconsin and seeing the Georgia Bulldogs take the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide to their very limit, this is one of the locks of New Year’s Day.

Georgia will destroy Nebraska in spectacular fashion.

Prediction: Georgia 41, Nebraska 14

No. 10 South Carolina vs. No. 18 Michigan: Outback Bowl

As much as the Michigan Wolverines' fans will claim they have a fighting chance against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Outback bowl, the strong SEC defense of SC will pulverize the mediocre offense of the Wolverines.

While both teams are ranked, these teams aren’t in the same weight class.

Prediction: South Carolina 27, Michigan 17

Wisconsin vs. No. 6 Stanford: Rose Bowl presented by Vizio

After the Wisconsin Badgers shocked Nebraska and cashed in their chance to play in the Rose Bowl, the Stanford Cardinal also won their conference championship game and sealed the Badgers' fate.

Stanford wins big on the power of their superior defense.

Prediction: Stanford 33, Wisconsin 17

No. 15 Northern Illinois vs. No. 12 Florida State: Discover Orange Bowl

While the Northern Illinois Huskies deserve immense credit for an amazing season, they are overmatched by an ACC juggernaut, the Florida State Seminoles.

While FSU hasn’t had the best season in 2012, a New Year will open the door for a huge win on a grand stage.

Prediction: Florida State 40, Northern Illinois 21
