After rivalry games and showdowns between ranked teams took place all over the country, a few teams earned results that should allow them to move up in this week’s BCS standings.

Notre Dame had an incredibly impressive showing as it went into the Los Angeles Coliseum and defeated USC to cap off an undefeated season. Yet the Fighting Irish were already No. 1 in last week’s rankings, and there is no room for them to move up.

But the other programs around the nation are still scrambling to improve their position before bowl selections are made, and this pressure produced a few fantastic games.

Here are the teams that deserve to move up in the rankings following an impressive victory.

No. 4 Florida

Florida entered their in-state showdown with Florida State as the No. 4 team in the country. Georgia sat one spot ahead of them in the rankings, and the Bulldogs also faced an in-state rival on Saturday.

Both teams won, but FSU is a significantly tougher opponent than the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles were ranked No. 10 in the BCS standings, and the Gators’ victory gives them a slightly more impressive résumé at this point. Georgia may have beaten Florida this year, but that is the only victory the program has over a ranked team this season.

This week’s rankings mean little, as a Bulldogs victory over Alabama in the SEC championship game would be more than enough for the team to leap back over the Gators. But for now, Florida has earned the No. 3 rank in the BCS standings.

No. 8 Stanford

After its third consecutive victory over a ranked team, Stanford deserves to move up from its No. 8 ranking.

The Cardinal started this incredible run with a victory over Oregon State, then picked up momentum with an overtime upset over Oregon. The team then dismantled No. 17 UCLA in Pasadena on Saturday.

Now, they will have a rematch with the Bruins in the Pac-12 title game with a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line. While that is the ultimate goal, the team deserves recognition for its recent accomplishment.

No. 7 LSU squeaked by with a less-than-impressive victory over Arkansas this week, and that should not be enough for it to hold onto its spot. Stanford deserves to be ranked ahead of the Tigers this week.

No. 12 South Carolina

This was not a week to remember for the ACC. The conference went 0-4 in battles with the SEC on Saturday.

In addition to Georgia's and Florida’s victories, Vanderbilt crushed Wake Forest and South Carolina prevailed over in-state rival Clemson. The Gamecocks were No. 12 heading into the matchup, while the Tigers were No. 11.

Now, South Carolina is clearly in line to move up at least one spot. But with Florida State’s loss, the Gamecocks deserve to jump up to No. 10 for this week.

If Steve Spurrier’s team is given the rank it deserves, they will be the sixth SEC team in the BCS’ Top Ten.
