College Football Rankings: Which Top Teams Are on Upset Watch?
Marvin Gentry-US PRESSWIRE

College football rankings are fickle. With four separate polls ranking the teams, it is a wonder that all teams in the top five are the same, just rearranged a little bit.

Entering the final month of play, many teams are still in the running for the National Championship game including the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, Oregon Ducks, Kansas State Wildcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

With so many top teams facing formidable foes this weekend, which teams are most likely to fold under the pressure and which ones will prove that they deserve to be in discussions for the big game in Miami on January 7th?

Delving into the college football rankings and examining the matchups, the first game that immediately stands out is the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide traveling to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers. There is something holy about SEC football that runs rampant in that part of the country and with good reason.

The "Game of the Century" last year ended with LSU pulling out the 9-6 overtime victory in one of the hardest fought games I have seen in past years. Alabama exacted sweet revenge in the end and is looking to maintain its undefeated record en route to a repeat performance in the National Championship game.

Les Miles and his Tigers need this victory and some more outside help if they hope to return to the title game after losing a heartbreaker in the Swamp to Florida earlier this year. Will they prevail and hand the Tide the first loss in the last year? Not likely.

Moving down the list of College Football Rankings, I don't foresee No. 2 Kansas St. or No. 3 Notre Dame having any problems at home against No. 24 Oklahoma St. or Pittsburgh, respectively. That brings us to No. 4 Oregon going to L.A. to take on the No. 17 USC Trojans.

The Battle of the Pac-12 pits North Division powerhouse Oregon versus the best of the rest in the South Division in USC. Reeling from a stunning upset at Arizona, Lane Kiffin and Matt Barkley are fired up and ready to defend their home turf against a tough Oregon team.

The Ducks have yet to face a difficult test and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota has seen little time heading into the fourth quarter as the Ducks are winning games with an average score of 53-19 this year. Are the Ducks on upset watch? Maybe.

Coach Chip Kelly and the rest of the country has yet to see how Mariota will perform in high-pressure situations and this game could really test the redshirt freshman.

In the complete list of college football rankings, I see other possibilities for upsets, but not in the top 10. I predict Texas A&M will win at Mississippi St., TCU escapes Morgantown with a close win over WVU and UCLA will keep its Pac-12 South Division hopes alive with a win over Arizona.

Stay tuned for more shakeups in the college football rankings as at least one team in the Top Five will fall this weekend.
