College Football Week 4 Betting Odds and Early Predictions

Jeff GrantJun 7, 2018

College football fans can hardly wait for the upcoming round of action, as many of the nation's top teams will face their first test of the 2012 season, while others will face bitter rivals on the gridiron.

Quarterback Denard Robinson will look to remain perfect against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as the Michigan Wolverines have opened as six-point road underdogs in the Week 4 college football betting odds (courtesy of SBR Forum).

Let's take a closer look at the upcoming week from a betting perspective, while making a few predictions along the way.

Maryland Terrapins vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

1 of 18

The West Virginia offense is putting up video-game type numbers, setting a school record with 181 points scored over a three-game period, which includes a 70-point outburst against the Clemson Tigers in the 2012 Orange Bowl.

Randy Edsall will need to rally his troops after suffering a 24-21 setback against the Connecticut Huskies as 2.5-point home underdogs, as the Maryland Terrapins have lost six consecutive games in this series.

Sports bettors will notice that the favorite is 4-0 against the spread (ATS) in the last four meetings.

Week 4 Betting Odds: West Virginia Mountaineers -27.5

UAB Blazers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

2 of 18

Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller may wear down over the course of the 2012 campaign, but head coach Urban Meyer has ridden him to a 3-0 start in his first year in Columbus.

The Buckeyes were out-gained by 100 yards in a 35-28 win over the California Golden Bears, as they now prepare for their final non-conference game before opening up their Big Ten Conference schedule in East Lansing on September 29.

The UAB Blazers have never beaten a ranked opponent outside of Conference USA competition, while the Buckeyes have won 60 consecutive regular-season non-conference home games against unranked opponents.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Ohio State Buckeyes -36

Bowling Green Falcons vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

3 of 18

The Bowling Green Falcons suffered a 27-15 setback to the Toledo Rockets as three-point road underdogs Saturday while also going "under" the total for the third time in as many chances this season.

Virginia Tech had its nation-leading 13-game road win streak snapped in a 35-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers as 10-point favorites. The Hokies were out-gained by a 537-324 margin and turned the ball over four times.

Sports bettors may expected a bounce-back performance in this matchup, with the Hokies going 9-2 ATS versus MAC opponents.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Virginia Tech Hokies -20.5

Virginia Cavaliers vs. TCU Horned Frogs

4 of 18

The Virginia Cavaliers might be in trouble against the TCU Horned Frogs this week, as the offense has failed to reach 300 yards of total offense in consecutive games for the first time since 2009.

I'm not sure they'll reach that mark in Fort Worth considering the Horned Frogs haven't allowed a touchdown this season.

Sports bettors will find that the Cavaliers have gone 0-5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference affairs.

Week 4 Betting Odds: TCU Horned Frogs -14.5

Kentucky Wildcats vs. Florida Gators

5 of 18

The Florida Gators have been a second-half team this year, outscoring opponents by a 50-13 margin, which is why I suggest looking to play the Kentucky Wildcats before the break next week.

Second-year head coach Will Muschamp will have a difficult time motivating his squad against Saturday's opponent, considering the program has won 25 straight in this series.

Circle this game and check out the first-half line later in the week.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Florida Gators -23.5

Missouri Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

6 of 18

Both teams may play without their No. 1 quarterbacks in this Southeastern Conference affair, which could lead to a defensive battle in the early going.

The Missouri Tigers haven't allowed a first-quarter point this season, while the South Carolina Gamecocks haven't surrendered a touchdown in the red zone.

Sports bettors will find that the Gamecocks have covered their last four home games.

Week 4 Betting Odds: South Carolina Gamecocks -9.5

Eastern Michigan Eagles vs. Michigan State Spartans

7 of 18

The Michigan State Spartans will try to get over a 20-3 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as 4.5-point home favorites, as they failed to score a touchdown for the first time since 1991.

Saturday's opponent will likely get them back on the winning track, as the Spartans have won all eight of their games against the Eastern Michigan Eagles.

In making a case for the road underdogs in this spot, Eagles head coach Ron English knows the Spartans well, as he once served as the Michigan Wolverines defensive coordinator.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Michigan State Spartans -30

Oregon State Beavers vs. UCLA Bruins

8 of 18

The UCLA Bruins have scored 122 points through their first three games, which gives them quite an advantage when facing off against Saturday's opponent in their Pac-12 Conference opener.

Oregon State has played just a single game, but did manage to pick up a 10-7 upset win over the Wisconsin Badgers as six-point home underdogs on September 8.

Sports bettors will find that the Beavers have gone 1-8 ATS in the last nine meetings in this series.

Week 4 Betting Odds: UCLA Bruins -13.5

Florida Atlantic Owls vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

9 of 18

The Alabama Crimson Tide are going to have no trouble dispatching the Florida Atlanta Owls this week, considering their opponent allowed the Georgia Bulldogs to gain a school-record 713 yards.

Sports bettors will find that the Owls are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 road games, while the Crimson Tide have covered nine of their last 12 non-conference affairs.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Not Available

California Golden Bears vs. USC Trojans

10 of 18

Former Heisman Trophy frontrunner Matt Barkley will need to regroup after falling to 0-4 against the Stanford Cardinal in this career. The USC Trojans quarterback has a great opportunity to bounce back in this spot considering the program has won eight straight against this week's opponent.

California out-gained Ohio State by 100 yards, but ultimately suffered a 35-28 setback as 17-point road underdogs. The Golden Bears offense is clicking on all cylinders, gaining 500-plus yards in consecutive games.

Sports bettors will find that the Golden Bears are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Southern California, as they look for their first win inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since 2000.

Week 4 Betting Odds: USC Trojans -17

LSU Tigers vs. Auburn Tigers

11 of 18

The LSU Tigers may get tested a bit against the Auburn Tigers this weekend, as the visiting team has lost 11 of the last 12 meetings.

Auburn improved to 23-0 under head coach Gene Chizik when scoring 30-plus points in last week's win over Louisiana Monroe, but it's hard to imagine the offense putting up that type of number in this spot.

Les Miles is starting to feel a little more comfortable with Zach Mettenberger under center, as LSU scored its most points under his direction last week against Idaho.

Week 4 Betting Odds: LSU Tigers -18.5

Louisville Cardinals vs. Florida International Golden Panthers

12 of 18

The Louisville Cardinals nearly squandered a 29-point halftime lead in their 39-34 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels, as the program hasn't allowed a point in the first quarter this year.

Florida International has yet to record a victory in four home games against teams from BCS conferences, which could lead to a long Saturday.

Cardinals quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is playing at an elite level, which should lead to big numbers facing the 110th-ranked pass defense in college football.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Not Available

Michigan Wolverines vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

13 of 18

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson is going to face quite the challenge this week, as the Notre Dame defense has allowed just 30 total points through three games this year. He finished last week with 397 yards of total offense against Massachusetts.

Robinson was absolutely electrifying in last year's 35-31 series win as 3.5-point home underdogs, as he looks to remain perfect in this rivalry.

The Fighting Irish have lost the last three meetings in the series—all by four points.

Be careful in backing the golden ones as favorites.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6

Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Georgia Bulldogs

14 of 18

The Georgia Bulldogs have managed to score 40-plus points in each of their first three games for the first time in school history, as they now look for their sixth consecutive win in this Southeastern Conference series.

Vanderbilt running back Zac Stacy gained 174 yards in last week's win over Presbyterian, which could carry over into this contest in Athens, as the Commodores rushed for 221 yards in last year's 33-28 setback to the Bulldogs as 13-point home underdogs.

Sports bettors will likely see an inflated total in this contest due to the high-scoring ways of Georgia, which could make the UNDER attractive. These two teams have fallen short of the number in four of the last five meetings.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Georgia Bulldogs -16

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Oklahoma Sooners

15 of 18

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones threw for a school-record 505 yards in last year's 58-17 blowout victory over the Kansas State Wildcats as 13-point road favorites.

Head coach Bob Stoops lands in one of his best situational roles, posting a perfect 14-0 record at home versus ranked opponents, which fits nicely with winning all 13 of his Big 12 Conference home openers.

The Wildcats will need to lean heavily on their 4-1-1 ATS mark in their last six trips to Norman.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Oklahoma Sooners -15

Clemson Tigers vs. Florida State Seminoles

16 of 18

The Florida State Seminoles have outscored their first three opponents by an astounding 176-3 margin, but the road gets a lot tougher in this spot. After gaining revenge against Wake Forest, the entire locker room will be focused on doing the same here.

Clemson picked up a 35-30 victory as 2.5-point favorites in last year's meeting, as the home team has won nine of the last 10 games in straight-up fashion.

The Tigers have done a great job in getting off the field defensively, as opponents are just 9-for-41 on third-down conversions against them.

Sports bettors may like that statistic even more knowing that Saturday's visitor has covered six of the last seven meetings.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Florida State Seminoles -12

Arizona Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks

17 of 18

Pac-12 Conference camera operators are going to have a hard time keeping up with these two offenses, as the Arizona Wildcats ran a school-record 102 plays on Saturday, while the Oregon Ducks have averaged 51 points per game in the last four meetings in this series.

Sports bettors will find that the OVER has cashed in the last four meetings, while the underdog is on a 5-2 ATS run.

Week 4 Betting Odds: Oregon Ducks -26.5
