The USC Trojans are in the forefront of college football media coverage every year. Do they deserve to be?

You never really know until the season is over and everyone sees how many wins they have. They are not the only college football team to get relentless coverage. There are a few others that get excess coverage and you have to wonder whether these teams deserve all the hype.

The Trojans have been the "Golden Boys" of college football for the past decade. Year in year out they have had highly recruited quarterbacks and potent offenses.

However, it is safe to say that they have too much hype. They won two National Championships in 2003 and 2004, but the 2004 title was vacated due to Reggie Bush receiving benefits.

Also, their highly recruited and regarded quarterbacks in the past decade have not panned out to be much in the pros.

The Trojans were competing in a weaker Pac-12 during their glory days. Now that the Pac-12 is stacking up with stiffer competition, let's see if the Trojans can get back to winning a national championship.

Miami Hurricanes

"The U" was a formidable program from the 1980s to the mid 2000s. Those days are long gone.

But for some reason they are still hyped up like Michael Irving is going to put on a jersey for them. The 'Canes have a 34-29 record since 2007 and have lost their last three bowl games.

Theys have put some legends into the pros, but those players would be disappointed at the current state of the team. They have not been to a BCS bowl game since 2003.

"The U" has lost its winning tradition and probably should have lost the hype with it.

Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners are at the top of the discussion when it comes to championship contenders every year. But then they never win it.

Which leads to the question why do they have so much hype? The Sooners have not won a national championship since 2000. The three times they returned to the title game they lost each one.

Sure, the Sooners are usually a one- or two-loss team every season. However, every year that one game is the game that keeps them from reaching the title game.

But since the Sooners continue to look like a championship team, the hype will continue.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Fighting Irish are surrounded with hype. Every year they have high expectations, but never seem to meet them.

Either they are not in a bowl game or if they are, they lose it. The Fighting Irish have lost 10 of their last 12 bowl appearances. Sure they have tradition, but they have not lived up to it in past years.

They have their struggles in the regular season, and they definitely struggle in the postseason. It is clear that they have not earned the extra hype they receive.
