Bobby Petrino: Jessica Dorrell as Much to Blame for Scandal as Petrino

Bobby Petrino has made a mockery out the Arkansas football program, but Jessica Dorrell shares equal blame.

Dorrell, who was hired by Petrino as the student-athlete development coordinator last month, has since been revealed as his mistress who was involved in a motorcycle crash with him on April 1. The 25-year-old was also just placed on paid administrative leave after the details came out.

Dorrell, like Petrino, was expected to be a model citizen for the University of Arkansas. She was a school employee with an obligation to the university. She was making over $55,000 (not to mention the $20,000 Petrino reportedly gave her) and was expected to do her job. Instead, Petrino and her exchanged more than 4,300 text messages and nearly 300 phone calls over the past seven months. Darren Rovell of CNBC pegged that down to a text message nearly every hour since Sept. 12.

Dorrell, like Petrino, should be fired, not placed on paid administrative leave. Both share equal blame for the scandal and both violated the university's trust. Beyond that, Petrino is married with four children and Dorrell was engaged, only breaking off the engagement a week before the motorcycle accident, according to the International Business Times. So they weren't only violating school policy, they broke the boundaries of morality and took the University of Arkansas down with them.

Petrino, of course, has had a history of violating people's trust. He secretly interviewed for the head coaching job at Auburn when Tommy Tuberville was still coach, and left the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 when there were still three games remaining in the regular season. He reportedly left notes on their lockers and took off. His tenure with the Falcons was the shortest for a non-interim coach since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger.

In that sense, it's easy to focus all the blame on Petrino. He is frankly not well liked by many of his past associates (and people in general).

But it's also important to hold Dorrell accountable in this mess. She is just as guilty as Petrino and even took money on the side.

Jessica Dorrell should be fired. End of story.
