Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Player Found Dead in Dorm Room

Minnesota Golden Gophers' senior linebacker Gary Tinsley was found dead in a University of Minnesota dorm room early Friday morning.

Tinsley was a Jacksonville, Florida native. He was just 22 years old.

Police have said no foul play is suspected, and they expect to release the official cause of death later this afternoon.

Reports around the U of M campus are that Tinsley was a dedicated student-athlete after having some troubles during his first few seasons at the U.

For a tight-knit campus like Minnesota, this news is terrible and shocking. Details will start emerging on the circumstances surrounding this young man's death, and I'm sure we will know more as the day wears on.

It is always grim to see such a promising young man lose his life at a young age. Tinsley had participated in the Gophers' pro day, and was preparing to be possibly selected in the upcoming NFL draft.

Tinsley was a leader for his team, on and off the field. He had been Minnesota's best defensive player over the last couple of seasons.

Head Coach Jerry Kill will surely weigh in at some point, but for now our thoughts and prayers go out to the Tinsley family in this time of crisis, and the entire Golden Gopher community.
