NBA Free-Agent Signings 2015: Tracking the Latest Deals and News

Tyler ConwayJun 30, 2015

The 2015 NBA free-agency period will go down as one of the most interesting in history. But unlike most years, the intrigue has little to do with where players are actually signing.

Reading free-agency rankings, your eyes tend to glaze over before finding a marquee player who will actually be on the move.

LeBron James has no incentive to leave Cleveland after tethering his future to the Cavaliers last summer. Marc Gasol, Kevin Love and Dwyane Wade are staying in their current cities, even if the latter two made their franchises sweat.

Adding intrigue this year is the type of contracts players are signing. The NBA's new television deal kicks in next summer, and with it will come a cap-space bonanza. All but a handful of teams are expected to have max-level room, depending on what happens this summer. They'll also be spending in a new NBA economy, where the $30 million superstar is the norm rather than the late-career anomaly.

That means many top stars—specifically those who would be max guys under any economy—could be looking for shorter contracts this year. James already set a precedent with the one-plus-one deal he signed last year in Cleveland. Not many have the financial comfort of James, but we're looking at a free-agency period where few players are incentivized to take a five-year max.

In turn, the difference between an incumbent team's offer and its competitors' is almost nonexistent. A player can take a shorter deal with a new team now and wind up making more on the back end by becoming a free agent sooner.

How will this all play out? Check through this article for the rest of the summer as we track every free-agent signing as it goes down.

Deron Williams Signs with Dallas Mavericks

1 of 63

The Dallas Mavericks announced Deron Williams' arrival on Tuesday. ESPN's Marc Stein reports Williams has a two-year contract worth $10 million, with a player option in the final year. Although he is a three-time NBA All-Star, Williams had a rocky stint with the Brooklyn Nets and has seen his production slip significantly the past two seasons.

Mercurial point guard Rajon Rondo didn't mesh well in Dallas, so the Mavs are taking on quite the risk with Williams. If the 31-year-old plays to his talent level, though, Dallas may have one of the underrated steals of free agency.

Sacramento Kings Sign Luc Mbah a Moute

2 of 63

The Sacramento Kings announced they'd signed Mbah a Moute on Tuesday. Marc Stein of ESPN reports it's a one-year deal. For a team that ranked 28th in points allowed last season, Sacramento will have to love the addition of a versatile defender like Mbah a Moute, who can guard on the perimeter and stick with stretch 4 power forwards.

This marks Mbah a Moute's second stint with the Kings. The 28-year-old played just nine games in his first stop, though, when he was traded for Derrick Williams during the 2013-14 campaign. Mbah a Moute played for Philadelphia last season, starting 61 games and averaging 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds.

Jameer Nelson Re-Signs with Denver Nuggets

3 of 63

RealGM's Shams Charania initially reported Jameer Nelson had agreed to terms on a three-year deal to stay in Denver. Marc Stein of ESPN indicated the deal is worth $13.5 million.

The 33-year-old Nelson is a suitable mentor at the point guard position for rookie lottery pick Emmanuel Mudiay to learn from. NBC New York's Mitch Lawrence reports Denver is "considering waiving Ty Lawson" following a DUI arrest, so Nelson is especially valuable insurance at the position now.

Oklahoma City Thunder Match Enes Kanter's Offer Sheet

4 of 63

The Oklahoma City Thunder decided Enes Kanter was worth having around for four years and $70 million after they matched his offer sheet with the Portland Trail Blazers.

"We traded for Enes last season with the intention of keeping him as a member of the Thunder for several years to come, and we are excited that he will continue with us," said Thunder general manager Sam Presti in the team's press release confirming the move. "He adds valuable depth to our roster, diversity to our frontcourt and the dimension that he brings offensively will positively impact our team."

After arriving in Oklahoma City following a trade from the Utah Jazz, Kanter averaged 18.7 points and 11 rebounds a game.

His offensive game took a big step forward in the 2014-15 season, but his defense remains a big question mark. Couple that with an already-crowded OKC frontcourt and the Thunder are taking a major risk with this signing.

Brooklyn Nets Sign Andrea Bargnani

5 of 63

The legend of Andrea Bargnani will continue in New York City after the Brooklyn Nets signed the veteran big man Sunday. The team confirmed the move on Twitter.

The 29-year-old is coming off two largely forgettable seasons with the New York Knicks. He averaged 13.9 points a night on 44.7 percent shooting in 71 games for the organization.

Bargnani's stock couldn't be much lower, so the Nets will be getting him at a cut-rate price. Perhaps he can rediscover the form he showed in 2011 and 2012 with the Toronto Raptors.

Lance Thomas Re-Signs with Knicks

6 of 63

The New York Knicks officially announced that they have re-signed forward Lance Thomas. According to RealGM's Shams Charania, the deal is valued at $1.6 million over one year.

After being dealt to the Knicks in a three-team trade involving Dion Waiters, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert in January, Thomas averaged 8.3 points and three rebounds per game over the course of 40 appearances (24 starts).

Capable of playing both forward spots, Thomas will provide the Knicks with solid depth behind the newly acquired Derrick Williams and rookie Kristaps Porzingis.

Sacramento Adds Caron Butler

7 of 63

According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, Caron Butler and the Sacramento Kings have agreed to terms on a two-year deal that will bring the 35-year-old swingman to California's capital.

USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt added that the deal is slated to pay Butler $3 million, with the second year functioning as a player option.

A 37.9 percent shooter from three last season with the Detroit Pistons, Butler can help space the floor while providing the veteran leadership he's become renowned for.

Alonzo Gee Lands with New Orleans Pelicans

8 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Gee signed a two-year, $2.75 million deal with the Pelicans. While the 28-year old is hardly a viable starter, he's proved to be a solid, reliable bench option, averaging 4.5 points per game last season in Portland. He shot 37.1% from three, giving New Orleans a solid, reliable outside shooter coming off the bench.

Luke Babbitt Returns to New Orleans

9 of 63

The New Orleans Pelicans continue to prioritize re-signing their own.

According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the Pelicans and small forward Luke Babbitt have agreed to terms on a two-year deal in the $2.5 million range.

During his second season with the Pelicans, Babbitt averaged a meager 4.1 points and 1.8 boards. However, he drilled 51.3 percent of his threes (59-of-115 overall), which was a career-high by a solid eight percent.

Babbitt will continue to operate as a backup behind Tyreke Evans and Quincy Pondexter after logging 75 percent of his minutes at the 3 last season, per Basketball-Reference.com

Indiana Signs Jordan Hill

10 of 63

With Roy Hibbert, David West and Luis Scola all out of the picture, the Indiana Pacers secured frontcourt reinforcements in the form of Jordan Hill, according to Sporting News' Sean Deveney

Per Deveney, terms of the deal have yet to be announced as the two sides are still ironing out details.

A scrappy rebounder and quality energy body, Hill should be able to provide stability at center while rookie Myles Turner develops behind him. Last season, Hill averaged a career-high 12 points and 7.9 rebounds.

However, Hill won't be able to protect the rim in ways Hibbert could. For his career, Hill has never blocked more than an average of 0.9 shots over the course of a single season.

Phoenix Nabs Mirza Teletovic

11 of 63

An hour after the Brooklyn Nets announced they had rescinded their $4.3 million qualifying offer to Mirza Teletovic, the stretch-4 agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Phoenix Suns, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge

According to NBA.com's John Schuhmann, the Nets rescinded Teletovic's qualifying offer because it would have produced approximately $20 million in luxury tax payments.

Acquiring Teletovic is big for the Suns, who recently parted with Marcus Morris in a trade that amounted to a salary dump with the Detroit Pistons.

The 29-year-old has made 36.2 percent of his threes since debuting during the 2012-13 season, and he will provide Phoenix with a solid floor-spacer at the 4 behind Markieff Morris.

Enes Kanter Signs Offer Sheet with Portland

12 of 63

According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, restricted free agent Enes Kanter has signed a four-year, $70 million offer sheet with the Portland Trail Blazers that includes a 15 percent trade kicker and player option in year four.

The Oklahoma City Thunder now have three days to decide if they want to match Portland's offer and retain the offensively gifted big.

Kanter, 23, averaged a robust 18.7 points and 11 rebounds after getting dealt to Oklahoma City by the Utah Jazz at the February trade deadline. However, his shoddy defense in the pick-and-roll and inability to protect the rim continued to stand out as major concerns.

DeAndre Jordan Returns to Clippers

13 of 63

DeAndre Jordan reneged on his original four-year, $80 million agreement with the Dallas Mavericks and has re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to the team's official Twitter account

USA Today's Sam Amick reported that Jordan opted for a four-year max contract with the Clippers over a five-year deal that could have paid him in excess of $110 million. The deal also holds a player option after the third year. According to CBS Sports' Ken Berger, the deal is officially worth $87.7 million over four years.

Jordan is limited offensively, struggling to shoot free throws and not playing outside the paint, but the 26-year-old has led the league in field goal percentage each of the last three years and rebounds each of the last two years, per Basketball-Reference.com

Luis Scola Signs with the Raptors

14 of 63

Luis Scola tweeted that he's headed to the Toronto Raptors, writing, "We the north... Here I come," shortly after the league-imposed moratorium ended on the morning of July 9. According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, Scola will sign a one-year deal worth roughly $3 million.

During his eighth NBA season, Scola averaged 9.4 points and 6.5 rebounds while posting an above-average 16.8 player efficiency rating with the Indiana Pacers, according to Basketball-Reference.com.

Scola joins a Raptors team that was quite thin at power forward behind Patrick Patterson, who is under contract for two more seasons.

Justin Holiday to Sign with Atlanta Hawks

15 of 63

Free-agent guard Justin Holiday has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Hawks, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

The 6'6'' shooting guard out of Washington averaged 4.3 points and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 38 percent from the floor in his second year in the league.

Wesley Johnson to Sign with Los Angeles Clippers

16 of 63

Shams Charania of RealGM reported Johnson will a one-year deal with the Clippers for the veteran's minimum. Johnson, 27, averaged 9.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 2014-15, playing with the Clippers' Staples Center co-tenant. He may get the first crack at the starting small forward spot.

Charlie Villanueva to Re-Sign with Mavericks

17 of 63

ESPN's Marc Stein reported Villanueva has signed a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum with the Dallas Mavericks. Villanueva, 30, averaged 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game last season, his first in Dallas. He may see a more extended role in 2015-16, as the signings of DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews leave the Mavs' roster thin.

Alan Anderson to Sign with Washington Wizards

18 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Alan Anderson has signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Washington Wizards. Anderson, 32, averaged 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in Brooklyn last season. He'll add to a vastly improved Washington core on the wing.

Mo Williams to Sign with Cleveland Cavaliers

19 of 63

Free agent Mo Williams has agreed to terms with the Cavaliers on a two-year, $4.3 million contract that includes a player option, per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

After a midseason trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Charlotte Hornets, the 32-year-old averaged 17.2 points and six assists in 27 games.

Williams spent two-and-a-half seasons in Cleveland between 2008 and 2011. In 186 regular-season games for the Cavs, he scored 16.2 points a game and averaged 5.1 assists. He earned a trip to the All-Star Game in 2009.

Leandro Barbosa to Re-Sign with Golden State Warriors

20 of 63

Leandro Barbosa has agreed to terms with the Golden State Warriors on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million, according to ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne.

Barbosa averaged 7.1 points and 1.5 assists while playing 14.9 minutes a game during the 2014-15 season. The newly minted NBA champion will continue to back up All-Star guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

J.J. Barea to Re-Sign with Dallas Mavericks

21 of 63

According to CBS Sports' Ken Berger, the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms with J.J. Barea on a two-year contract worth $5.6 million.

The 31-year-old played in 77 games last year for the Mavs, averaging 7.5 points and 3.4 assists in 17.7 minutes a night.

David West to Sign with San Antonio Spurs

22 of 63

Free-agent forward David West has decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported the one-year deal was for the veteran's minimum, worth $1.4 million. West decided against picking up his player option with the Indiana Pacers for next season, which would have paid him $12.6 million, according to Spotrac.

Manu Ginobili to Re-Sign with San Antonio Spurs

23 of 63

26 of 63

Restricted free agent Reggie Jackson has agreed to re-sign with the Detroit Pistons on a five-year deal worth $80 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Brandon Bass to Sign with Los Angeles Lakers

27 of 63

Brandon Bass has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, David Aldridge of NBA.com confirmed.

The 10-year veteran averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per contest last season for the Boston Celtics. The Lakers will be the fifth team the power forward has played for in his career.

Jeremy Evans to Sign with Dallas Mavericks

28 of 63

Jeremy Evans announced on Twitter he has agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks. ESPN's Marc Stein reported the deal is for two years at the league minimum.

He averaged 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season, his first in Indiana. Bringing Stuckey back will give the Pacers three shoot-first combo guards with Monta Ellis and Joseph Young also in the fold.

Lou Williams to Sign with Lakers

30 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Lou Williams has agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal with the Lakers. He averaged 15.5 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game last season on his way to winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. His addition will create a little bit of a logjam at shooting guard, as the Lakers already have Kobe Bryant, Nick Young and D'Angelo Russell under contract.

Kosta Koufos to Sign with Sacramento Kings

31 of 63

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Kosta Koufos agreed to a four-year deal with the Sacramento Kings worth $33 million. Stein added the fourth year is a player option. Koufos was one of the best rim protectors still on the market, and the terms are fairly reasonable. You only wonder how Koufos will fit into a rotation that already included DeMarcus Cousins and Willie Cauley-Stein. Perhaps the move is a bit of insurance should Cousins force a trade away from Sacramento.

Bismack Biyombo to Sign with Toronto Raptors

32 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Biyombo agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with Toronto. The 22-year-old center is a solid reserve signing for the Raptors, giving them depth in the middle and a solid defensive anchor for their second line. Biyombo's offense is still very much a work in progress, but he's a strong shot blocker and decent rebounder, and will fit well in Toronto's physical defense.

LaMarcus Aldridge to Sign with San Antonio Spurs

33 of 63

Aldridge announced his decision to sign in San Antonio, and Adrian Wojnarowski reported he'd agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with a player option after three. The power forward was one of the most coveted free agents in the NBA, and with good reason. The athletic, versatile shooter had a fantastic final season in Portland, averaging 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds. He's a perfect fit in San Antonio, and his athleticism will pair nicely with their style of play.

C.J. Watson to Sign with Orlando Magic

34 of 63

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reported Watson has agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with the Magic. The 31-year-old guard is a solid veteran backup option for the young Magic, and averaged 10 points and 3.6 assists per game last season. While he's not a star, he gives Orlando some much needed depth in their backcourt.

Robin Lopez to Sign with New York Knicks

35 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported that Robin Lopez and the New York Knicks have agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $54 million. Wojnarowski noted the deal was "solidified" after another Knicks target, DeAndre Jordan, informed them he would not be signing with the team.

Even though Jordan has the name value, Lopez isn't a bad fallback plan. The 27-year-old led the NBA in offensive rating, which estimates the number of points produced per 100 possessions, in 2013-14 with 128, per Basketball-Reference.

Lopez also gives the Knicks a strong defender in the middle who can fill the role once occupied by Tyson Chandler before he was traded to Dallas last offseason.

Gary Neal to Sign with Washington Wizards

36 of 63

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Gary Neal agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Wizards for $2.1 million. Neal spent most of last season with the Charlotte Hornets before being dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 10.1 points per game between the two teams.

Neal had a strong finish to the season, shooting 35.5 percent from three-point range in 11 games. The Wizards will be hoping the 30-year-old, who has 38.1 percent from behind the arc in his career, continues that upward shooting trend off their bench next season.

Ed Davis to Sign with Portland Trail Blazers

37 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports the Blazers have inked Davis to a three-year, $20 million contract. CBSSports.com's Ken Berger confirmed the deal. Davis played last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and averaged 8.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

This move to acquire Davis continues a reshuffling of Portland's frontcourt, which may indicate the team is bracing for a future without All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge and perhaps free-agent center Robin Lopez as well.

Monta Ellis to Sign with Indiana Pacers

38 of 63

Marc Stein of ESPN reports Ellis will not return to the Dallas Mavericks and will instead move to the Eastern Conference as a Pacer on a four-year, $44 million deal. Ellis will also have a player option after the third year of his contract. ESPN's Chris Broussard reports Sacramento offered $48 million, but Ellis elected to go to Indiana for less money.

Aron Baynes to Sign with Detroit Pistons

39 of 63

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Aron Baynes has reached a verbal agreement with Detroit on a three-year contract with a player option in the final year that is worth up to $20 million. Baynes averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds for San Antonio in just 16 minutes per game last season and figures to be in line for a bigger role based on what the Pistons will reportedly pay him.

James Anderson to Sign with Sacramento Kings

40 of 63

The Sacramento Kings bolstered their perimeter rotation by signing veteran guard James Anderson to a multi-year contract, per Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears. The 26-year-old shooting guard didn't play in the NBA this past season, instead suiting up for Basketball Club Zalgiris in Lithuania.

Anderson last played for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-14 and 10.1 points per contest.

Greg Monroe to Sign with Bucks

41 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Monroe agreed to a three-year, $50 million deal, with a player option on the third year, with the Milwaukee Bucks. The 25-year-old power forward averaged 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds last season with the Pistons, and gives the Bucks a true low post presence who can score. Monroe will pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker to create one of the best young frontcourts in the NBA.

Arron Afflalo Signs with Knicks

42 of 63

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported Afflalo will sign a two-year, $16 million deal, containing a player option for the second season. The 29-year-old shooting guard gives the Knicks a sharpshooting wing player who is capable of filling up the scoresheet on any given night, and averaged 13.2 points last season with the Nuggets and Trail Blazers. Afflalo figures to play a very prominent role in the Knicks' offense.

Draymond Green Re-Ups with Golden State

43 of 63

According to Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears, restricted free agent Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors have agreed to terms on a five-year deal worth $85 million. A Defensive Player of the Year candidate last season, Green helped the Warriors master small-ball techniques by guarding every position on the floor. His ability to knock down spot-up threes in pick-and-pop situations with Stephen Curry also added an extra wrinkle to the Warriors' offense.

Boston Brings Jae Crowder Back

44 of 63

After acquiring Jae Crowder in last December's Rajon Rondo blockbuster, the Boston Celtics signed the restricted free agent to a five-year, $35 million deal Wednesday night, according to RealGM.com's Shams Charania. A stingy perimeter defender with a developing three-point stroke, the 24-year-old Crowder will help pad Boston's wing depth for years to come.

Iman Shumpert Returns to Cleveland

45 of 63

The Cleveland Cavaliers won't stop spending. According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the reigning Eastern Conference champions have signed swingman Iman Shumpert to a four-year deal worth $40 million. The contract, which will pay out an average of $10 million per season, also includes a player option for the fourth year, per Wojnarowski

Paul Pierce Signs with the Los Angeles Clippers

46 of 63

According to NBA.com's David Aldridge, Paul Pierce will play on his third team in as many seasons after inking a three-year, $10.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Citing sources, Aldridge indicates Pierce will earn the mini mid-level exception, which is valued at $3.3 million for next season. The mini mid-level exception is exercised by taxpaying clubs. According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the third year of Pierce's deal will be a team option.

Amir Johnson Signs with Boston Celtics

47 of 63

CBSSports.com's Ken Berger reports Johnson will flee Toronto for Boston as a free agent on a two-year, $24 million contract. Johnson adds athleticism and energy to the Celtics frontcourt and figures to start at the 4 when the 2015-16 season opens.

Kyle Singler Re-Signs with Oklahoma City Thunder

48 of 63

Yahoo Sports insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Thunder have worked out a five-year contract worth almost $25 million for Singler. The restricted free agent evidently made a strong impression on Oklahoma City's brass in his 18 starts for the team last season.

Jonas Jerebko Re-Signs with Boston Celtics

49 of 63

Sam Amick of USA Today reports Jerebko is headed to Boston on a two-year, $10 million contract. Jerebko is a capable stretch 4 who fits well in Celtics coach Brad Stevens' schemes, which preach spacing and playing at a fast pace.

Tyson Chandler Signs with Phoenix Suns

50 of 63

Yahoo Sports insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports Chandler will play for his sixth different team in joining the Suns. ESPN.com's Marc Stein then indicated Chandler's contract is for four years and $52 million.

Chandler figures to be a great mentor for Phoenix center Alex Len, who has a ways to go to live up to his status as the 2013 draft's fifth overall pick.

Kevin Love Re-Signs with Cleveland Cavaliers

In a piece titled, "Unfinished Business" for The Players' Tribune, Love announced he'll be returning to Cleveland. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported Love's contract is worth approximately $110 million over five years.

52 of 63

ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst reports Butler will remain in the Windy City on a five-year deal worth $90 million.

Butler, who has a player option in the last year of his contract, has gone from an unheralded late first-round pick to an All-Star in the span of four seasons. The 25-year-old's lucrative payday to stay with the Bulls therefore comes as little surprise.

Brandon Knight Re-Signs with Phoenix Suns

53 of 63

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports Knight has agreed to stay in Phoenix on a five-year, $70 million contract. Knight was traded to the Suns amid an active deadline period last season, and it will be interesting to see how his deal impacts Eric Bledsoe's future.

Brook Lopez Re-Signs with Brooklyn Nets

Khris Middleton Re-Signs with Milwaukee Bucks

56 of 63

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports Middleton will stay in Milwaukee on a five-year contract worth approximately $70 million.

Middleton is shooting 40.3 percent from three-point range in his young career and is a versatile, lengthy defender on the perimeter. The Bucks evidently feel the 23-year-old will only continue to improve based on the big investment.

57 of 63

ESPN's Marc Stein reported Ajinca and the Pelicans agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract. Priority Sports congratulated Ajinca on the new deal.
