NBA Power Rankings: Every Home Uniform from Ugliest to the Best Looking

John FrielJul 7, 2011

With no basketball to talk about, columnists now find themselves talking about the teams' actual jerseys.

With no free agency concerns or trades to discuss until a resolution is made to end the NBA lockout, we'll just have to keep writing about what the players wear rather than the actual players themselves. There can only be so many speculation and rumor pieces before you have to start writing about what the players are wearing these days.

It beats writing another criticism article dealing with LeBron James.

For over six decades, NBA players have entertained us with their uncanny athletic abilities and their God-given gift of talent that they have decided to use for the purpose of playing the game they love. Rather than looking at the players who have made the NBA into what it is today, we'll look at the jerseys that they currently wear.

NBA jerseys usually have simple designs, but a number of teams like to deviate from the norm. At times this could be a good thing, yet it could also end up in a mess if done incorrectly. We look at those teams today and rank their home jerseys from the ugliest to the nicest looking.

30. Oklahoma City Thunder

1 of 30

They might be new to the league, but it's about time for these jerseys to be re-designed.

The color scheme is new, but the letters are boxy and the jersey design itself is sickeningly unoriginal.

29. Toronto Raptors

2 of 30

It could be that time for the Toronto Raptors to bring back these jerseys.

They might have a dinosaur wearing a uniform and dribbling a basketball, but it still beats another unoriginal design.

28. Charlotte Bobcats

3 of 30

Pinstripes can only take you so far. This is where it stops.

Still beats these Halloween nightmares.

27. Minnesota Timberwolves

4 of 30

A hodgepodge and an overall mess of a jersey.

The Timberwolves' latest uniform just has too much going on to be taken seriously. Their jerseys during the Kevin Garnett days were simpler, but they were at least straight forward and to the point.

26. New Jersey Nets

5 of 30

Another cookie-cutter design on a jersey.

No originality and nothing standing out. It's just another run-of-the-mill uniform for a team to wear.

25. Cleveland Cavaliers

6 of 30

A jersey design that made its debut last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers seem to be doing whatever it takes to rid themselves of anything surrounding LeBron James, including the much better looking jerseys that the team wore for nearly a decade.

The color scheme is new, but the overall design is simple and unoriginal.

24. Phoenix Suns

7 of 30

The Phoenix Suns were going for originality with the number of designs on their current jersey, but it only added up to another standard jersey with an oval surrounding the number on the front for some reason.

Perhaps a look back at their jerseys from the 1990s will give some inspiration towards designing a better jersey.

23. Sacramento Kings

8 of 30

Only the Sacramento Kings can pull off black and purple, so we'll give them credit for that.

However, it's still reminiscent of any other jersey's design in the league today.

22. Detroit Pistons

9 of 30

It's a look that the Detroit Pistons have seemed to possess for decades, aside from those teal nightmares from the 1990s, but now it just seems like your average jersey with the standard name and number on the front.

21. Houston Rockets

10 of 30

There were many reasons to love the 1990s. This was one of them.

The jerseys now hardly look like they can be worn in a space shuttle. The current ones just put me to sleep with how average it is.

20. Memphis Grizzlies

11 of 30

It beats having a grizzly bear with a basketball on your shorts, but this isn't any better.

The color scheme is quality, but it still looks like any other jersey you see today.

19. Indiana Pacers

12 of 30

A clean look for the Indiana Pacers, but an average one nonetheless.

18. Milwaukee Bucks

13 of 30

The color scheme of the Milwaukee Bucks' current jerseys can either be loved or hated.

It's a solid design, but it could still use plenty of work.

17. Orlando Magic

14 of 30

Pinstripes gone wrong once again. Hedo Turkoglu looks like he's wearing pajamas rather than a basketball uniform.

16. Atlanta Hawks

15 of 30

A solid design that features a quality color scheme, as well as an overall quality design.

The Atlanta Hawks recently switched to these jerseys after spending so many years in jerseys that hardly stood out.

15. Dallas Mavericks

16 of 30

As long as they don't break these messes out again, I am fine with whatever jersey the Dallas Mavericks decide to wear.

14. Los Angeles Clippers

17 of 30

An impressive and classy design for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The colors are standard and so is the jersey overall, but the cursive writing of the word "Clippers" adds some distinctive details to the look of it.

13. San Antonio Spurs

18 of 30

A classic look that the San Antonio Spurs have held on to since they were still an ABA team.

Not much wrong with these jerseys as the color scheme meshes will with the overall design.

12. Philadelphia 76ers

19 of 30

After spending a decade of trying to deviate the look of their jerseys from classic to modern, the team recently decided to go back to its original look.

It's a simple design, but a classy one as well. There's not too much going on, the colors flow very well with the jersey, and the logo on the shorts is an homage to the Sixers teams of old.

11. Miami Heat

20 of 30

A simple look, but a simple look that at least has some flare to it.

Miami has kept the template of their jerseys since they became a team in 1988.

10. Denver Nuggets

21 of 30

It's tough to go wrong with powder blue and yellow. The Denver Nuggets made sure that they didn't find a way to mess that up either.

I still wouldn't mind seeing these broken out once in awhile though.

9. New Orleans Hornets

22 of 30

There are only three teams in the NBA that dare to use pinstripes in their jersey designs and the New Orleans Hornets are the only team to pull it off when it comes to home jerseys.

The pinstripes, colors and design all add up to one of the nicer looking jerseys in the league today.

8. Washington Wizards

23 of 30

As an homage to the Washington Bullets teams of the 1970s, the Wizards decided to modernize them by bringing them back for the 2011-12 season.

It's a classic look to a jersey that has been popular for nearly 40 years.

7. New York Knicks

24 of 30

Possibly the best color scheme when it comes to NBA jerseys, the New York Knicks' blue and orange is one of the best looks for any team in the sporting world.

Even if the team hasn't always performed well, at least they were wearing these when doing so.

6. Chicago Bulls

25 of 30

A simple and classy design for the Chicago Bulls.

There haven't been too many changes to the design aside from a transition from cursive to print. The Bulls jerseys today are at their best since the Jordan-era.

5. Los Angeles Lakers

26 of 30

The look of gold and purple is a look that will never fade when it comes to talking NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers have popularized and modernized this jersey to no ends until you get what you have today. Although the designs of the previous Laker jerseys were far more quality, the ones you see today are still just as impressive.

4. Portland Trail Blazers

27 of 30

A stunning jersey that hasn't changed its design since the 1980s, the Portland Trail Blazers' still stands as one of the best in the league today.

It's a simple design, but the black and red stripe is all the jersey needs to appear as one of the nicest looking in the league as of now and in its history.

3. Utah Jazz

28 of 30

A design similar to that of the former New Orleans Jazz teams, the Utah Jazz of today didn't deviate too far from that design and got the masterpiece of a jersey they currently wear.

It's easily one of the best in the league today with the classic look and the classic color scheme.

2. Boston Celtics

29 of 30

A jersey that can never seem to grow old, the Boston Celtics have had the same jersey since the 1960s and have had no reason to change it.

It's a simple and classic look that hasn't changed before and probably won't be changed again if the Celtics know better.

1. Golden State Warriors

30 of 30

Far and away the best looking jersey in the league today, the Golden State Warriors pay homage to those teams of the 1960s with a modernized look of the jerseys then.

It's the same concept, but with a few changes for the better. There's just enough on the front of the jersey to make sure it isn't a complete hodgepodge of designs, which makes it the best home jersey to wear in the league today.
