LeBron James Could Join Magic Johnson in Record Books with Finals Triple-Double
Superstar LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers tip off Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday evening.
While the matchup could prove to be an epic third-round bout between the two clubs, it also provides LeBron with an opportunity to join Magic Johnson in the record books. The King currently owns seven NBA Finals triple-doubles to his name, but an eighth in Game 1 would tie him with Magic for the most all-time, per NBA.com/Stats.
LeBron has one triple-double so far this postseason, supplying 41 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists in the team's opening-round victory over the Indiana Pacers. He's been close a few other times as well, falling just a few rebounds or assists short.
After falling to the Warriors in the Finals in 2015, LeBron led the Cavaliers to the franchise's first-ever NBA title last season. The team rebounded from a 3-1 deficit in the series to earn the championship—the city of Cleveland's first in 52 years.
While he has very little left to prove in his career, LeBron possesses an opportunity to boost his status even more with a victory over a stacked Golden State Warriors squad. The opposition added superstar Kevin Durant during the offseason to an already star-studded roster. If James and company take them down, it would likely prove to be one of the monumental moments of his career.
