Kevin Durant Says Backlash About Rest Is Targeting Steph Curry and Star Players
Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant is not a fan of the NBA potentially developing a resting rule in response to marquee players sitting out games during the regular season.ย
"The truth about it is, it's only for a couple of players in the league," Durant told ESPN's Chris Haynes. "They don't care if the 13th man on the bench rest. It's only for likeย LeBron [James],ย Steph [Curry],ย [James] Harden,ย Russell [Westbrook]. It's only for like five players, so you want a rule just for those five players?"
After the Cleveland Cavaliers sat James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love for a prime-time game against the Los Angeles Clippers on March 18, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sent a memo to all 30 teams about the issue of rest.ย
Per ESPN'sย Ramona Shelburne, Silver called sitting star playersย "an extremely significant issue for our league" and plans to discuss the matter at the NBA's Board of Governors meeting on April 6.ย
The NBA is in a difficult spot because it wants to do what's in the best interest of its fans and business partners, but the teams want to police themselves in an effort to best prepare for a potential playoff run.ย
