Fantasy Football Week 10: The Ultimate Guide to Sunday's Action
Fantasy points have been gushing of late, even if the temps are dropping around the country. As much as you need the points, you likely can do without them on your opponents' side.
November marks the start of fantasy crunch time as everyone pushes for the postseason in fantasy and the NFL. As much as the cold rain might seen daunting, along with the final six-team bye week, fantasy clarity has emerged from the results of the first half of the season.
Bleacher Report breaks down the Top 100, injury report, starts, sits, sleepers, busts and last-minute waiver-wire options in the Ultimate Guide to Sunday's Action. If you need an NFL slant, reference Michael Schottey's guide to NFL Week 10. As always, B/R has you covered from all angles.
Overall Rankings
1 of 6The Dallas Cowboys found out what life without Tony Romo (back) was like. They couldn't have liked it. The good news is, they might not have to deal with it any longer.
Romo practiced in full Friday in London and is nearly a certainty to start against the Jacksonville Jaguars across the pond, according to ESPN.com's Todd Archer. Romo is listed as probable and the matchup is too tantalizing to sit him.
Head coach Jason Garrett told Archer: "He looked pretty comfortable to me. Clearly, he wanted to get the blood flowing through his body and get his movement back both in the pocket and also throwing the football, and he had a pretty good day Thursday."
You have to upgrade everyone in the Cowboys offense with Romo back in the fold, particularly the primary options like Dez Bryant, DeMarco Murray and Romo himself. That trio remains top 40 fantasy starts at this point. Terrance Williams, Jason Witten and the Cowboys defense/special teams figure to be must-starts, too.

Injury Report
2 of 6Every week we break down the most significant injuries on the official NFL injury report (NFLmedia.com credentials required) as they pertain to fantasy, from the game-time decisions to the probables and those ruled out.
Game-Time Decisions
RB Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints (shoulder)
The fact the Saints will be without a couple of running backs already (see below) makes it more likely Ingram plays against the San Francisco 49ers. While you can like his chances to be active, you cannot like that matchup.
RB Charles Sims, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (ankle)
We have waited weeks—err, months—for him to be active, but you have to gauge his snap count before considering him viable—even in the most favorable matchup on the board. The rookie is still a bit raw and uncertain with his usage.
WR Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaners (knee)
He is no stranger to playing through injury and questionable tags on the injury report. You have to like his matchup against the Atlanta Falcons and the fact veteran quarterback Josh McCown is back under center.
RB Montee Ball, Denver Broncos (groin)
The Broncos have done just fine with Ronnie Hillman being the feature back, so don't expect the Broncos to rush Ball into action. They can beat the Oakland Raiders with one back tied behind their back, so to speak.
RB Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills (groin)
The Kansas City Chiefs matchup is not intriguing enough to consider Jackson at something less than 100 percent. He can prove starter-worthy down the stretch, though.
WR Sammy Watkins, Buffalo Bills (groin)
Unlike Jackson, you can like his matchup. We don't like his chances to play, though.
RB Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins (shoulder)
He might start, but that matchup against the Detroit Lions defensive front is unfavorable. Use him at your own risk.
TE Martellus Bennett, Chicago Bears (ribs)
The Green Bay Packers have given up just two touchdowns to tight ends—per FFToday.com—but if Bennett is active, he should be starting at the thin tight end position.
The Probables
The following players were officially listed as probable, so you can consider them safe to play in fantasy, as needed:
- WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
- TE Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints
- RB Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks
- QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
- QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
- RB Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
- WR Percy Harvin, New York Jets
- RB Reggie Bush, Detroit Lions
- TE Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
- WR Wes Welker, Denver Broncos
- WR Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks
- QB Michael Vick, New York Jets
- RB Juwan Thompson, Denver Broncos
- RB Chris Johnson, New York Jets
- WR Cecil Shorts, Jacksonville Jaguars
- WR Kenny Stills, New Orleans Saints
- K Brandon McManus, Denver Broncos
Find Replacements
The doubtful and players labeled officially out have to be sat in all leagues, and their backups should be considered viable fantasy sleepers, if not stars. Line up replacements for these guys:
- QB Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles
- RB Rashad Jennings, New York Giants
- RB Khiry Robinson, New Orleans Saints
- RB Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints
- RB Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- TE Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings
- TE Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions
- RB Stepfan Taylor, Arizona Cardinals
- WR Donnie Avery, Kansas City Chiefs
- TE Zach Miller, Seattle Seahawks
Start 'Em
3 of 6Here are five must-start options for Week 10 because of health, game plan or matchup for fantasy football owners, one at each position:
QB Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders
The rookie has cooled after a solid start, but the matchup against the Denver Broncos should prove to make him among the most productive fantasy options this week. The Broncos are coming off a loss, so you have to expect them to play well offensively. That should make for ample garbage time for the quarterback and his middlin' receivers. The offensive firepower is mostly to blame for the Broncos' fourth-worst ranking against fantasy quarterbacks (FFToday.com).
RB Bobby Rainey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While everyone is anticipating the return of Doug Martin (ankle) or the emergence of rookie Charles Sims (ankle), Rainey has been the hot hand. The struggling Bucs have to ride Rainey until one of those other talents prove healthy and productive.
Fantasy owners should, too, particularly against the bad Atlanta Falcons defensive front. The Falcons have given up the most points to fantasy running backs this season, according to FFToday.com. It could be 100 yards and a touchdown (plus) for Rainey this Sunday.
WR Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina Panthers
The rookie is coming off his worst game of the season and his two-week touchdown drought is his longest of his brief career. Expect that mini-slump to end against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Not only are the Eagles potent and a candidate to give up garbage-time numbers, but they are also fourth-worst in fantasy against wideouts, per FFToday.com. We should expect 100-plus yards and a touchdown in this one. Don't run away from Benjamin when he is about to run away from coverage, particularly in the red zone in this one.
TE Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger is on arguably the greatest two-week run in fantasy football history, and now the Steelers and their free-agent-to-be quarterback get a banged-up and shaky New York Jets secondary. Miller is a must-start in all leagues, not only because of the Big Ben streak but particularly because the Jets are the second-worst team in fantasy against tight ends, per FFToday.com.
D/ST Arizona Cardinals
Their secondary has been a huge disappointment thus far this season, but the Cardinals are back home against a St. Louis Rams team coming off a huge victory over the San Francisco 49ers. We might be inclined to expect a letdown for the streaking Cardinals, but not at home against a divisional foe. What's more, the Rams have been the second-worst team in fantasy against opposing defense/special teams, according to FFToday.com.
Sit 'Em
4 of 6Here are five players, one at each of the primary positions, whose matchups are unfavorable enough to keep them out of fantasy starting lineups for Week 10:
QB Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
He is coming off a big 37-0 victory against the San Diego Chargers, but he and his Dolphins have to travel to face the Detroit Lions now. That opponent has proved to be the toughest in fantasy against opposing quarterbacks, according to FFToday.com. The Lions are also coming off a bye and had to be watching a week ago. Tannehill was going to be a bad play in this one, no matter what they did a week ago.
RB Bishop Sankey, Tennessee Titans
We were optimistic about Sankey in his rookie season, but that is gone now. He has struggled against much weaker opponents, and here they face the No. 2 team in fantasy against running backs, per FFToday.com. What's worse is the Titans are taking a long look at a rookie quarterback, which should make it even tougher on the running game.
WR Golden Tate, Detroit Lions
Tate has been a beast for Matthew Stafford and the Lions amid the absence of Calvin Johnson (ankle). The expected return of Megatron after the Lions' bye should negatively impact the fantasy upstart Tate this week. The matchup against the Dolphins is a bad one too. They are quietly the fifth-best team in fantasy against wide receivers, according to FFToday.com.
TE Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers
There have been myriad reasons for Davis' decline this season. He has been injured, the 49ers added another receiving threat in Stevie Johnson and—perhaps most important—Colin Kaepernick just hasn't been as good as advertised. Davis' recent struggles make him a tough, if not impossible play, against the New Orleans Saints. Rob Ryan's defense has allowed the second-fewest points to fantasy tight ends, according to FFToday.com. Let Davis prove healthy and productive before you consider starting him again.
D/ST San Francisco 49ers
Almost any play against the New Orleans Saints offense is a bad option when the Saints are at home. It doesn't even matter the 49ers defense is still banged up and disappointing in fantasy this season because of age, wear and tear. The Saints have been limiting opposing defense/special teams this season, but the struggling Colin Kaepernick and co. make it tough for the defense to be as good as years past.
Sleepers and Busts
5 of 6In case you are in the need of a deep sleeper amid the six-team bye week, or have a multitude of bye-week replacements, B/R has five sleeper options to consider and five regular starters to consider sitting in daily fantasy leagues.
Five Week 10 Lineup Sleepers
- QB Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens—His matchup against the Tennessee Titans should at least give him scoring opportunities, even if the Ravens can pound the football repeatedly at home in this one.
- RB Juwan Thompson, Denver Broncos—He is a real scoring threat in a matchup at the Oakland Raiders that should create garbage time. Thompson should be able to reach the end zone.
- WR Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans—You can be wary of Zach Mettenberger as a starter, but note the Titans' go-to target against the Ravens secondary that has allowed the second-most wide receiver fantasy points to date, per FFToday.com.
- TE Andrew Quarless, Green Bay Packers—He has had only two decent fantasy performances this season, but we have to point out the Chicago Bears have been the worst team in fantasy against tight ends thus far this season, according to FFToday, com.
- D/ST Kansas City Chiefs—They are red-hot and the Buffalo Bills will prove to be turnover prone eventually.
Five Week 10 Lineup Busts
- QB Eli Manning, New York Giants—He has cooled off considerably and is heading to Seattle for a potential beat-down against the defending champions in the toughest place to play in the NFL.
- RB Tre Mason, St. Louis Rams—You have to love his emergence in crunch time, but you cannot love the Arizona Cardinals (No. 1 against fantasy running backs, per FFToday.com) as an opponent this week.
- WR Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants—If there is someone for the Legion of Boom to take away, it would be the explosive rookie Beckham this week.
- TE Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers—You cannot sit him because of the thin position, but the Philadelphia Eagles have quietly been the toughest in fantasy against tight ends this season (see tight ends link above).
- D/ST St. Louis Rams—They were great against the San Francisco 49ers last week, but the Arizona Cardinals (No. 5 in fantasy against defense/special teams, as noted by FFToday.com) pose a much more significant challenge.
Last-Minute Waiver Options
6 of 6If you're still hunting for some replacement options, we review the prospects of some of CBSSports.com's most-viewed players leading up to Sunday's kickoffs:
- RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings—He has settled his legal issues and awaits NFL discipline, but his potential makes him worth owning, regardless of the outcome, at this point.
- RB Chris Johnson, New York Jets—He has been limited in his touches, so the likelihood of him proving fantasy-worthy is fairly low right now.
- RB Theo Reddick, Detroit Lions—He is a better option if Reggie Bush is out, but Reddick is at least worth owning in fantasy for when Bush is not active.
- Charles Sims, Tampa Bay Buccaneers—The Bucs need to get him experience, but Doug Martin's struggles and injury will at least get him an opportunity right away.
- WR Justin Hunter, Tennessee Titans—It will take quarterback Zach Mettenberger a while to make his receivers productive, but Hunter is more than capable in the red zone already in his second season.
- RB Peyton Hillis, New York Giants—He might steal snaps from struggling rookie Andre Williams, but Rashad Jennings (knee) isn't far from a return. Hillis is a one-week stopgap at best.
- RB Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills—He is still banged up, but his rest and C.J. Spiller's absence give him the potential to impact fantasy leagues down the stretch.
- RB Montee Ball, Denver Broncos—There should be legit concern he will take the feature role back from Ronnie Hillman right now, but the potent Denver Broncos offense makes him worth owning...just in case.
- WR Steve Smith, Baltimore Ravens—He has cooled off after a hot start, just like the weather.
- WR Jordan Matthews, Philadelphia Eagles—Mark Sanchez at quarterback just cannot excite you about this sinking starter right now.
