Tim Tebow: Which Teams Are Most Likely to Deal for Denver's QB?
Just prior to the NFL draft, John Elway reportedly gave his vote of confidence for last year’s first round rookie Tim Tebow.
Finally, after months of speculation, it appeared that the Broncos brass was going to put their faith in the charismatic, heroic, ultra-talented quarterback. He is one of the best young talents in the league—he has an incredible work ethic, motor and determination. More importantly, he is one of the more inspirational players in the league; he will surely will his teammates to victory.
The smoke settled on the draft and the Broncos refused to draft a quarterback as many expected they would.
Crisis averted Tebow fanatics.
Unfortunately, not quite just yet—Head coach John Fox recently spoke out that there will certainly be competition for the starting quarterback position, according to this ESPN Associated Press report.
"’I think they're all capable," Fox said. "No matter what the position, we try to create competition and may the best man win. As far as even fighting for starting jobs, guys are going to have to compete and do it consistently. That's the guy that's going to get the ball on Sunday."
Fox stated, "I have great respect for all of them. I see the excitement and enthusiasm in Tim. ... I think we have a competitive situation at quarterback."
The caveat is that Timmy may not even be with the team once transactions resume.
When asked if he'd ever consider trading Tebow, "You're always looking to improve your football team. But that hasn't been a remote possibility at this point," Fox said.
It shouldn’t be, but it could be.
Of course, only a handful of teams would legitimately trade for Tebow. Still, due to the Broncos’ non-commitment to Tebow as the starting QB, we begin to wonder what the odds would be for every other team to trade for Timmy when transactions resume.
Why might the 31 others organizations offer something for him? More importantly, what could each team do with Tebow if they were to land the young superstar?
31. Atlanta Falcons
1 of 31
After trading two first-round selections, and then some, to the Browns for the rights to select Julio Jones, the Falcons do not even have much to offer in compensation for Tebow.
Odds: 32:1
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2 of 31
The Buccaneers already have the face of their franchise in Josh Freeman. He is the NFL’s next great winning quarterback.
The only reason Raheem Morris and the Bucs would decide to trade for Tim would be to add a quality insurance plan to Freeman. Freeman is the type of quarterback who will not hesitate to tuck the ball and run, which could ultimately lead to injury.
This is a great young team that needs a motivational leader. Tebow would be another emotional leader in the rocker room.
Odds: 32:1
29. San Francisco 49ers
3 of 31
Jim Harbaugh landed his franchise quarterback in the draft in Colin Kaepernick. He was excellent in college but has a smaller frame than the ideal quarterback.
Tebow would instantly come to fight for the starting job with Alex Smith, who has been one of the biggest busts in the league.
By the time Kaepernick is ready to play, Tebow could already be on the way out. Regardless, San Fran would have two young quarterbacks as trade bait in the following years.
Odds: 32:1
28. Cincinnati Bengals
4 of 31
The Broncos would probably prefer to have Palmer than Tebow or Orton starting after rebuilding the defense.
Tebow would be able to inject even more life into the franchise than the selection of Andy Dalton.
The Bengals prefer to let their young quarterbacks sit and learn the game before throwing them into the fire. Tebow already sat for a year and could be the starter for at least two years before handing the reigns over to Dalton.
Odds: 32:1
27. Tennessee Titans
5 of 31
The Titans selected Jake Locker with the No. 8 overall selection this past weekend.
I’ve never been sold on Locker, I don’t think he’ll be a great successful quarterback in the NFL. Tebow has the leadership qualities, big game experience and overall skill set to succeed—especially in Tennessee.
Tebow would have a great running back to fall back on in Chris Johnson. The Titans would be able to use both Tebow and Locker to exploit defenses with their athleticism.
Odds: 32:1
26. Carolina Panthers
6 of 31
The Panthers grabbed Cam Newton No. 1 overall to be the face of the franchise. It might be wise to let Cam sit, or play in certain packages, before sending him off to the wolves and shake his confidence.
Together, Newton and Tebow would be a devastating duo with their combined skill set. The Panthers wouldn’t even need a top-tier receiver because these two just make things happen.
They are two of the more heroic quarterbacks in recent college football history. Carolina would create a powerful running game with these two and Jonathan Stewart.
Odds: 32:1
25. St. Louis Rams
7 of 31
Last year, Sam Bradford and the Rams proved me wrong. I thought they would be terrible. I thought Bradford would get abused behind their offensive line.
Instead, he went on to be extremely successful, displaying remarkable leadership and accuracy. He is every bit the franchise quarterback they envisioned.
Tebow would serve as Bradford’s backup and could be used in certain packages. Sam suffered a shoulder injury in his last season at Oklahoma, so the Rams would be bracing for any potential injury to him in the NFL by acquiring Tim.
Odds: 30:1
24. Minnesota Vikings
8 of 31
After the backlash the Vikings have received for selecting Ponder, Minnesota could bring in Tebow to rival Christian for the starting job next year.
Ponder is not the safest bet to stay healthy throughout his career, which means Tebow would be an excellent insurance policy should he lose the starting position to this year’s rookie.
Tebow right now could manage a fine game and help lead the Vikings to the playoffs this season.
Odds: 30:1
23. San Diego Chargers
9 of 31
Philip Rivers has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but every team really needs a quality backup quarterback.
The Chargers are lacking that option behind Rivers. Should anything happen, Tim could still lead this highly talented team into the postseason.
General manager A.J. Smith would also have trade bait in the future as Tebow has the tools to be a successful NFL starter.
Odds: 28:1
22. New York Jets
10 of 31
The Jets drafted Greg McElroy to be Mark Sanchez’ backup, but Tim Tebow offers a completely different dynamic.
Tebow has the raw skills, experience and leadership qualities to will the Jets to the Super Bowl, even as a backup.
The main reasons the Jets would want Tebow is to allow create headlines and then allow Rex Ryan to prove to the NFL that Tim can play quarterback.
Ryan loves to prove the rest of the NFL wrong by bringing in players deemed as outcasts, Tebow fits the bill.
Odds: 25:1
21. Kansas City Chiefs
11 of 31
The Chiefs are on the verge of great success. They could very well have a stranglehold on the division for years to come with this offense.
Still, people should be more worried about Matt Cassel’s health than they are. More importantly, is he truly the franchise quarterback for the Chiefs in the future?
Tebow could come and sit for a few more seasons and then take the reins from Matt. He would have ample time to learn how to better play the position and then step in to take this team to the Super Bowl.
Right now, he would serve as a quality backup who could not just make spot starts but also play in games immediately. Thomas Jones has a ton of wear and tear on his body. Tebow could actually be used in short yardage situations.
Odds: 25:1
20. Chicago Bears
12 of 31
Tebow is a great leader, while many question Jay Cutler’s heart.
The most important reason for Chicago to acquire Tebow would be to have a great backup for Jay. Cutler was abused last year behind the offensive line. Although Gabe Carimi will help bolster the unit, Cutler will most likely still be a sitting duck.
He suffered a concussion and a sprained MCL last year—who knows what will happen to Jay this year. Tim is a winner and would keep the Bears on the right track.
Odds: 22:1
19. Jacksonville Jaguars
13 of 31
Jacksonville needed a face of the franchise and it was reported that their owner would have been thrilled to land Timmy.
They traded up in this year’s draft to grab Blaine Gabbert. Regardless, Tebow could become the face of the franchise and line up in different packages this season with David Garrard as the quarterback.
If they desired, the Jags could even ship Gabbert off next year if they decide Tim is the way to go.
Odds: 22:1
18. Baltimore Ravens
14 of 31
Baltimore just drafted playmaking quarterback Tyrod Taylor, yet Tebow would add an even bigger dimension to the offense than Taylor.
Both Taylor and Tebow need to hone their talents and Joe Flacco would be a fine, young mentor to the both of them.
John Harbaugh could create trick packages to utilize all three quarterbacks on the field at the same time, which would be extremely difficult for any defense to stop.
Odds: 20:1
17. New York Giants
15 of 31
Eli Manning is just as sturdy at the position as his brother, Peyton.
Still, the Giants need a capable backup to Eli. New York has the running game and receivers to take all pressure off Timmy.
Perhaps the most important part of the deal would be the opportunity to steal headlines from Rex Ryan and the New York Jets. This would be a PR move, but one that also benefits the Giants on the field.
Odds: 20:1
16. Detroit Lions
16 of 31
The Lions have a very good young quarterback in Matthew Stafford.
The only problem is that Stafford can’t stay on the field.
If the Lions are once again limited at the position, they won’t have a chance to win the division despite how competitive they are.
Tebow is solid like a rock and the Lions brass wouldn’t have to worry about him missing games. He would be an excellent backup to Stafford as he has the talent to bring this team to the playoffs.
Odds: 18:1
15. Green Bay Packers
17 of 31
Aaron Rodgers is just entering his prime, but he has already been beaten up in his career.
The Packers could use an upgrade at the backup position despite Matt Flynn’s heroics against New England last year.
Tebow would be able to sit and learn from one of the game’s elite in Rodgers. If he was forced to miss time, Tim would be able to lead this team back to the Super Bowl.
He is the type of motivational leader and playmaker the Packers are accustomed to throughout their storied history.
Odds: 18:1
14. Houston Texans
18 of 31
Matt Schaub is never a safe bet to stay on the field. He is always an injury risk and if he goes down for an extended period of time, there goes the Texans’ playoff hopes—again.
Tebow would be an excellent back up to Schaub. He has no durability issues and would have the supporting cast to succeed.
Tebow doesn’t have the refined accuracy just yet, but with Andre Johnson, you and I could complete passes!
Should Schaub ever go down, the Texans would still be in great hands and have an opportunity to win the division.
Odds: 15:1
13. Cleveland Browns
19 of 31
As much as I like Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow has the leadership qualities, late game heroics and star power the Browns have been desperately searching for to be the face of the franchise.
They have had failed experiment after failed experiment. McCoy looks to be the one to break that streak—but Tebow is guaranteed to break that streak.
He fits in extremely well with the type of players Mike Holmgren is bringing to Cleveland. He has the toughness, grit and work ethic to match the rest of this team full of unheralded players working diligently to succeed.
Odds: 15:1
12. New Orleans Saints
20 of 31
The Saints need a back up to Drew Brees and who better than the saint himself Tim Tebow?
Tim would land in an ideal situation as he would get to learn from Brees and Sean Payton.
More importantly, he would still get some playing time as the mastermind Payton creates packages to use him to his advantage.
Payton would create his own type of Wild Cat offense to accommodate Tebow’s skill set. Tim would be deemed the future of the franchise, but also somebody who could still will the team to victory should Brees suffer an injury.
Odds: 13:1
11. Pittsburgh Steelers
21 of 31
Ben Roethlisberger is not Superman—he has several kryptonites that could cost him playing time.
Tebow is a player that resembles the skill set and heroics of Big Ben. He would be an ideal backup for Roethlisberger because he could come in and the Steelers offense would not lose a beat.
The Steelers went 3-1 to begin the 2010 season with Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch at QB—they would have been undefeated with Timmy.
Odds: 11:1
10. Arizona Cardinals
22 of 31
The Cardinals are looking for a veteran QB this offseason to take the team to the top of the NFC West.
Kevin Kolb looks to be the prime candidate, but Tebow would give the Cardinals the star power they need. More importantly, I guarantee he could win more games than Kolb.
Tim is the better QB between the two. He has the mystique and aura at the position Ken Whisenhunt is looking for. No, he is not as accurate as Kurt Warner was, but he has the leadership qualities Whisenhunt is looking for.
He would also create a dominant three-headed rushing attack with Chris Wells and rookie Ryan Williams.
Odds: 12:1
9. Indianapolis Colts
23 of 31
I’m sorry Colts fans. Peyton Manning may be a machine, but he will not be around forever.
The Colts desperately need to find the successor to the throne—Tebow would be a fantastic addition.
The Colts would stay atop the league in terms of the star power even after Peyton leaves. More importantly, Tim would be able to learn from a Hall of Fame quarterback.
Peyton would be able to teach Tim every aspect of the position—throwing motion, footwork, how to read defense, etc.
This would be the ideal learning destination for Tebow.
Odds: 10:1
8. Dallas Cowboys
24 of 31
Jerry Jones is always looking for superstar talent to keep his team atop in the media.
Tony Romo will not last much longer, maybe a handful of years. By then, Tebow would be ready to step in and destroy the competition with his skill set.
He could even make a major impact now at quarterback with his playmaking abilities.
Jones is always looking for diverse options to put on offense, Jason Garrett can do a lot of things with Tim to confuse defense.
Odds: 8:1
7. New England Patriots
25 of 31
You can never rule Bill Belichick out of any situation. He is a masterful mind in the NFL and is usually one step ahead of the rest.
He definitely knows the value of Tim Tebow. Tom Brady needs an heir apparent—that man is not Ryan Mallett.
Belichick would make Timmy a successful quarterback in this league as he uses his abilities to his advantage. Tim could have his own packages separate to Tom Brady, but has the ability to be on the field with Tom at the same time.
At the very least, Belichick would make Tebow a better QB and then trade him away at the right time.
Odds: 6:1
6. Buffalo Bills
26 of 31
Chan Gailey is a quarterback guru. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a fine, competitive quarterback, but Tebow would really jumpstart this organization.
Many thought the Bills would select a QB in the draft, but they made the smart move and passed on this quarterback class.
Tebow makes solid decisions and has the leadership qualities Gailey is looking for to drive this young team.
With Tebow’s raw skills, Gailey would be able to mold him into an extremely successful and effective quarterback.
Odds: 6:1
5. Miami Dolphins
27 of 31
Although the Dolphins refused to draft a quarterback from this class, we know they are still in the market for a new franchise quarterback.
I still believe Chad Henne deserves one more year to progress, but he has shown that he is unwilling to throw the ball down the field. This not only aggravates Dolphins fans, but his wide receivers as well.
The Dolphins are still in the market for a new franchise quarterback and the best one to bring in right now would be the man who played at Florida, Tim Tebow.
Tebow makes smart decisions and will be willing to throw the ball deep to Brandon Marshall, Davone Bess and rookie Edmond Gates.
More importantly, Tebow is a powerhouse of a runner and fits in with Tony Sparano’s main objective of running the ball.
The time for Tebow is now.
Odds: 5:1
4. Washington Redskins
28 of 31
We know Mike Shanahan is searching for a new quarterback. Donovan McNabb was a failure last season. Rex Grossman is not the answer and John Beck is in no way the answer either.
Tebow is the type of quarterback that would fit in perfectly in Shanahan’s offense. More importantly, he is a great talent who could be molded into the quarterback Shanahan envisions for his franchise.
Daniel Snyder has been searching for the face of his franchise for years and year, Tebow is the man knocking on the door.
Odds: 5:1
3. Oakland Raiders
29 of 31
The Raiders still have issues at the quarterback position since Jason Campbell is clearly not the answer today or in the future.
Tebow has one of the brightest futures in the league and would be able to will this young team to success.
If the Broncos don’t think Timmy has the abilities to succeed, they should have no problem shipping him off to a division rival.
The Raiders have been searching for a superstar to carry the franchise back to prominence—Tebow would be the perfect fit.
Odds: 5:1
2. Seattle Seahawks
30 of 31
The Seattle Seahawks are heading in a new a direction under Pete Carroll—a direction that does not include Matt Hasselbeck, and a direction that should not include Charlie Whitehurst.
Carroll is looking to build a dynasty in Seattle similar to USC. He wants to create a college-like atmosphere with a core group of young, talented players.
The best way to complete the vision is to acquire one of the greatest collegiate players of all-time and a man who can motivate his teammates like no other in Tim Tebow.
He has the leadership qualities, heroics, hardware and physical abilities to lead the Seahawks to another dynasty in the NFC West.
Odds: 4:1
1. Philadelphia Eagles
31 of 31
Andy Reid is preparing to trade Kevin Kolb, which means the Eagles need a backup to Michael Vick. More importantly, they need the future of their franchise.
Vick will not last forever and could very well get injured on any given play. In Reid’s system, Tebow would see a ton of success. Has a skill set similar to Vick, just not to the same extremes.
Reid would be able to hone Tim’s skills in practice and prepare him for the long haul of the NFL.
Tebow is a perfect fit for the Eagles.
Odds: 2:1
