Breaking Down New Air Jordan 1 KO Premium Shoes

Kyle VassaloNov 12, 2011

Air Jordan keeps firing out shoes fast and furious, dropping three colors of the Air Jordan 1 KO Premium's today, making it a whopping six shoes total this month.

These AJKOs are completely different than the "in your face" style of the Retro 4 "Doernbechers" and Spizikes that dropped on November 6th, but just because they aren't as mind blowing doesn't mean they aren't must-have shoes.

Let's take a look at how the Air Jordan 1 KOs grade out.

Air Jordan 1 KO Premium --Light Graphite/Black--Varsity Red

Not one of the Air Jordan 1 KOs has a loud color scheme. While the nearly uniform light graphite color isn't exactly a color you make a statement with, that's what makes these shoes so appealing.

Their classic, traditional look makes them the perfect shoe if you don't want everyone within a 25-mile radius to stop and stare at your shoes, as they will if you are rocking the Retro 4 "Doernbecers".

WOW Factor: 1 out of 10

When a shoe can be classified as "neutral", the wow factor just isn't going to be there. Sneaker junkies might lose their minds when they open up this box, but they are the only ones who will have their minds blown by this purposefully uneventful shoe.

The black Jumpman logo popping off a red square on the tongue is the only thing that saves this shoe from putting up a zero on the wow factor scale.

Design: 9 out of 10

Just because these shoes aren't blowing anyone's mind doesn't mean the design isn't spectacular. Of all three of these shoes, these have the best look to them by far. They keep the classic look and almost look like some sort of strange retro take on Air Force One high tops.

Overall Swag Grade: 8 out of 10

It's a beautiful thing when a shoe has swagger and isn't trying too hard. That's exactly what you get with this shoe. In a word, these shoes are smooth. While they blend in easy, it's impossible not to appreciate them.

Air Jordan 1 KO Premium --Dark Cinder/ Black --Varsity Red

Jordan fails here. These shoes have such an off rust color that it almost looks like the third color of this shoe was left in the rain too long. If you are paint balling in a forest and need something to go with your camo, you are in luck.

If you aren't, you'll want to go with one of the other two colors of this shoe that dropped today.

WOW Factor: 3 out 10

WOW, those are gross. That's the only reason this shoe even gets a three out of 10 here. They'll never have a fresh out of the box look to them and those who are blown away by this shoe won't have a positive outlook on them.

Design: 2 out of 10

Harsh? Not really. It's hard to believe that they should pick such a bad color scheme that it can take a shoe from a 9 to a 2, depending on which shoe you look at. This unique color doesn't hit and the red square on the tongue against the dark cinder makes you wonder why they didn't pick any other color.

Overall Swag Grade: 2 out of 10

Classic is one thing. Outdated in another. If you would like to look like some sort of futuristic pilgrim, go for it. These get a 2 out of 10 because it's impossible to sport Js and not impress someone. This isn't Air Jordan's finest work. In fact, these are the worst shoes of the six that have dropped this month.

Air Jordan 1 KO Premium --Black/Anthracite --Varsity Red

This shoe has everything the dark cinder version lacks. The black on black hides some of the features of the shoe that the graphite makes easy to see, but after looking at the previous shoe, it's hard to say this one doesn't hit it out of the park.

WOW Factor: 5 out of 10

These shoes have a classic feel but they aren't boring by any means. They've got a real leather feel and force onlookers to go back for a second look. They aren't dazzling, they don't present anything we haven't seen before, but they leave you wanting more.

Design: 8 out of 10

It works. Of all the shoes that drop today, these are the most versatile. They're going to appeal to the widest audience and rightfully so. Not everyone can appreciate what the graphite colored AJ1KO's have to offer and the black color brings a traditional color to a traditional shoe.

Overall Swag Grade: 7 out of 10

Nobody is going to have their minds blown by these shoes, but they don't have a shortage of swagger. Owners of this shoe can be proud of their purchase. They aren't the sort of shoe that you can't wait to show your friends, but they're a great shoe that will appease the masses.
