NBA Trade Rumors: Odds for the Top Rumored Players to Get Dealt This Summer

Ethan NorofJun 7, 2018

Big names like Dwight Howard that are involved in NBA trade rumors don't always wind up getting dealt to another club.

There is a lot to take into account when attempting to concoct a deal at the professional level, and it makes the jobs of decision-makers and general managers very hard when dealing with legitimate stars.

Although there have been a lot of potential scenarios that have cropped up over recent weeks as fans continue to speculate for action after the lockout ends, not all of those being talked about will find a new home before the 2011-12 campaign.

Some are more likely to get dealt than others.

Is your team's star going to be on the move?

Dwight Howard

1 of 7

Odds: 1,000:1

No, that's not a typo. That's how strongly I feel about the chance of Howard being dealt this summer.

While it's entirely possible that Howard is traded at the deadline, GM Otis Smith would be foolish to accept a deal for the big man at any point before that.

Smith has already said that he isn't going to trade Howard (at least not yet), and among other reasons, the man behind all of the Orlando trades notes that it's impossible to get fair value for a superstar.

Orlando is attempting to build a team that would appeal to Howard and get him to sign an extension on the bottom line, and as long as that remains the priority, he isn't going anywhere.

Tony Parker

2 of 7

Odds: 500:1

While the odds of Parker being dealt aren't nearly as astronomical as Howard's, there's very little reason for the Spurs to shop their veteran point guard right now.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports was the first to report that the club was gauging interest in Parker prior to the draft, but that was largely in an effort to move up into the lottery.

After the team successfully landed Kawhi Leonard by trading away Parker's backup PG George Hill, San Antonio would be moving backward if they dealt Parker at this point.

It doesn't make a ton of sense right now to explore a deal for Parker, but the team could certainly trade him before his recently inked four-year, $50 million extension expires.

Rudy Gay

3 of 7

Odds: 100:1

There has been some rampant speculation over recent months that the Grizzlies would be better off without Rudy Gay and his max contract, but that doesn't make a ton of sense.

Despite the team's surprisingly successful postseason run in 2010-11 with an injured Gay on the sidelines, the team really struggled to space the floor which ultimately led to the club's demise.

Gay is a unique talent whose trade value would be compromised at the negotiating table because of the financial commitment outstanding to him, so the team wouldn't gain much in any potential scenario.

Cleveland beat writer Jason Lloyd reports that the popular belief around the league is that the small forward could be had in the "right deal," but that may not have been fully accurate considering the Cavs' reported interest in Gay around the draft.

Monta Ellis

4 of 7

Odds: 50:1

Monta Ellis' name has gone back and forth in being mentioned in trade rumors as there have been conflicting reports about his availability, but it seems like the new front office team wants to keep him around.

Owner Joe Lacob and coach Mark Jackson are both said to be big fans of what Ellis brings to the table, and team general manager Larry Riley went on the record stating that the team wasn't actively shopping Ellis.

Although Riley confirmed that he's not being actively shopped, it's entirely possible that a desperate team comes calling with an offer that the club can't refuse.

Having said that, all signs currently point toward Ellis remaining with the team as they attempt to find a way to make the undersized backcourt of he and Stephen Curry work to perfection.

Andre Iguodala

5 of 7

Odds: 15:1

Andre Iguodala is more ephemeral about his stance on the Sixers than I've seen from a player in a very long time.

After reportedly wanting out at the beginning of the season, Iguodala is now playing the role of good soldier, stating that he expects to remain with the team.

No matter what the veteran small forward really wants, dealing him will be an obstacle for the Sixers as he's still owed a very large chunk of change.

It'll be interesting to see if any interested team bites, and while the Lakers have expressed some interest in exchange for Lamar Odom, those talks may have been fueled by Iguodala's agent, Rob Pelinka, in an effort to get his client onto a larger stage.

Lamar Odom

6 of 7

Odds: 8:1

Lamar Odom is the most attractive trade chip that the Lakers have at the bargaining table when discussing a potential deal, increasing the likelihood that he'll be dealt.

The team clearly needs to change something after faltering in the postseason and the Mavericks ran circles around them, and with a lot of money committed to the superstars, Odom stands to yield the most in a trade scenario.

The Lakers reportedly offered Odom to Minnesota in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick, and it's clear that they'd be willing to move him in the right offer.

The team likely feels that they could only move their multi-dimensional sixth man if they can really improve the club, and it's in doubt as to whether or not they could truly get proper value with any interested team.

Josh Smith

7 of 7

Odds: 7:5

The Atlanta Hawks have made it known that they're going to be ready to listen to any inquiries on versatile power forward Josh Smith.

After seven seasons with the team, it appears that the club is ready to move on from Smith and reshape the landscape of the front-line according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Smith is said to be open and interested in a move as well, and there has been rampant speculation that he could join the Magic alongside Dwight Howard, as he listed them as one of his four most desired landing spots according to Wojnarowski's report.

J-Smoove is a fantastically gifted player capable of contributing across the stat sheet, but his acts of inconsistency may be growing tiresome for a Hawks team looking to take it to the next level.
