Andre Iguodala: 10 Possible Trade Scenarios for the 76ers Star
Andre Iguodala has been on the trading block since the middle of the 2009-10 season, and with the Sixers struggling out of the gate, the rumors are starting to heat up again.
Iguodala is only part of the problem in Philadelphia, where a roster crowded with players who play the same position and have similar skills has Doug Collins searching for answers.
The simplest solution would be to send A.I. and his massive contract out of town.
With a number of other NBA teams looking to move salary, there are plenty of possible takers for the swingman's services.
Meanwhile, an Achilles injury has kept him out of the last two games.
When he returns, Collins has hinted he will go with a lineup of Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner and Iguodala.
That would mean starting three players who are slashers first and shooters second.
It just wouldn't be a good fit.
Here's a look at 10 teams that could make a play for Andre Iguodala in the weeks ahead.
No. 10: Andre Iguodala for Richard Hamilton
1 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
The Pistons have a logjam of their own at the wing, including at shooting guard, where Rip Hamilton is still toiling away.
Unlike Iguodala, Hamilton is perfectly comfortable coming off screens to drill jump shots.
A native of the Philadelphia area, he could slightly boost attendance while making the Sixers a more complete team.
Chances It Will Happen: Low
The Pistons could use more athleticism and youth on the wing, but Joe Dumars would like to move Tayshaun Prince and possibly even Ben Gordon instead of Hamilton.
Good luck with that, Joe D.
No. 9: Andre Iguodala for DeMar DeRozan
2 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
Like the Sixers, the Raptors need to do something, anything, to become more competitive.
Even if that means giving up on a promising young player for a more proven commodity.
DeRozan's scoring is up slightly from last season, but his shooting percentage is way down. At this point, his best offensive skill is clearly finishing at the rim.
The youngster could blossom in a different system.
Chances It Will Happen: Low
The last thing the Raptors want to do is add more salary, even if it means getting better in the process.
Don't expect them to start shopping DeRozan quite yet.
No. 8: Andre Iguodala for Peja Stojakovic
3 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
Depending on how you look at it, this move may or may not make sense given the Hornets' incredible start to the season.
The last thing New Orleans wanted to do heading into the season was add more salary, but the hot start might alter that line of thinking a bit.
In the process, Dell Demps could get the final year of Peja Stojakovic's contract off the books.
Things are looking good for now in the Bayou, but adding Iguodala on the wing to complement Trevor Ariza would certainly be a great move.
Chances It Will Happen: Low
The impending sale of the Hornets has put blockbuster deals on hold, at least for now.
It's unlikely New Orleans will threaten the Bulls' 72-win record, so don't be surprised to see those Chris Paul rumors begin to swirl once the losses begin to come.
With CP3 possibly on the move either this year or next, making a move for A.I. doesn't necessarily make sense.
No. 7: Andre Iguodala for Kevin Martin
4 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
One of the biggest reasons this deal could go down is swapping one bad contract for another.
Houston desperately needs more athleticism on the wing, while Kevin Martin is a poor man's Rip Hamilton.
Martin's style of play is more suitable to what the Sixers need at this point.
Chances It Will Happen: Medium
You never really know what to expect when it comes to the Rockets' personnel moves.
Martin would be a nice fit in Philly, but his injury history is a concern.
No. 6: Andre Iguodala for Devin Harris
5 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
Another example of moving one big contract for another.
The Sixers like Jrue Holiday's potential at the point, but Harris is a proven All-Star and a true point guard.
Meanwhile, the Nets have been forced to rely on Travis Outlaw at small forward this season.
Outlaw is a good player, but Iguodala would be a major upgrade.
Chances It Will Happen: Medium
Harris has played very well early in the season, which could be enough to bump him off the trading block, at least for the moment.
If New Jersey doesn't feel it has the pieces to pry Carmelo out of Denver, adding Iguodala wouldn't be a bad fall-back plan.
No. 5: Andre Iguodala for Danny Granger
6 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
Based on team needs, the Sixers and Pacers could consummate a deal involving two All-Star-caliber small forwards.
Indiana has shooting, so the last thing the Pacers need is a 6'8" forward like Danny Granger who prefers to launch jump shots instead of driving to the bucket.
Philadelphia has been one of the worst jump-shooting teams the last two seasons, especially from three-point range.
Granger would instantly make defenses think twice about crowding the lane, opening up driving opportunities for Holiday, Evan Turner and Lou Williams.
Iguodala's ability to get to the rim would take pressure off young point guard Darren Collison.
Chances It Will Happen: Medium
This move makes a great deal of sense, but swapping big-name for big-name is easier said than done.
No. 4: Andre Iguodala for Danilo Gallinari or Wilson Chandler
7 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
The Knicks need to do something to lock up a spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
That likely means moving Danilo Gallinari or Wilson Chandler.
Both players have been disappointing for different reasons.
Gallinari is supposed to be a knock-down shooter, but he has struggled with his shot and confidence early in the season amid trade rumors.
Chandler is supposed to be a great finisher, but he has looked sluggish coming off an injury-plauged offseason and is drifting towards the perimeter.
The Knicks could use a wing to fill the lanes.
Iguodala's all-around game could flourish in Mike D'Antoni's system.
Chances It Will Happen: High
New York can't wait around forever, Carmelo.
If the Nuggets don't lower the asking price for 'Melo soon, the Knicks will have no choice but to act.
No. 3: Andre Iguodala for Carmelo Anthony
8 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
The Nuggets need to get rid of Carmelo, and it might be easier to swing a straight-up deal for Iguodala instead of involving at least one or two other teams.
Denver has been telling everyone who will listen that it wants to stay competitive even after moving Carmelo, and acquiring Iguodala would allow that to happen.
Chances It Will Happen: High
It hasn't been talked about yet, but that doesn't mean it won't become a reality.
Carmelo wants to go East, and Iguodala wants to be wanted.
No. 2: Andre Iguodala for Monta Ellis
9 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
The Warriors are playing well early in the season, but the team could begin to explore trading options involving Monta Ellis.
Ellis and Steph Curry are fun to watch, but defense remains optional and size is a huge problem.
There's little chance such a small lineup will be good enough to contend in the Western Conference in the long run.
Iguodala would make the Warriors bigger, better defensively and fit in perfectly with the uptempo style.
Chances It Will Happen: High
The deal only makes sense if the Sixers decide to include Lou Williams.
Ellis isn't a great perimeter shooter, but his pure scoring ability would make him worth acquiring.
No. 1: Andre Iguodala for Chris Kaman
10 of 10
Why It Makes Sense
The Sixers have a glaring need in the middle and the Clippers need a legitimate small forward.
Kaman has a big contract and doesn't necessarily fit into the long-term plans in L.A.
With Al-Farouq Aminu still a long way from being ready, Iguodala would instantly make the Clippers a better team.
Elton Brand is playing like an All-Star early in the season and would benefit from being reunited with his former Clippers' teammate.
Chances It Will Happen: High
Of all the possible moves being talked about, this one seems to make the most sense.
The trade would allow both teams to move salary and fill needs.
It should be interesting to see exactly how long Iggy remains in Philadelphia.
