Why The New Miami Heat Could Be Good For The NBA

Collin O'ConnorJul 25, 2010

Dating back to when Magic Johnson was playing against Larry Bird, everyone wanted to see the Celtics and Lakers play each other. Even this year, the NBA Finals between Boston and Los Angeles was one of the most watched that we've had in a while. The question is, why do people love that rivalry so much?

Back when they were the teams to beat in the NBA Finals, both of them had players that everyone wanted to watch. Whether it was the Celtics or Lakers, there were players on both teams worth watching.

So, with that said, the Miami Heat could bring a new rivalry to the NBA, and ever more people will turn in to see how it all plays out.

With the Lakers still the power in the West and the Miami Heat coming in from the East, these two teams could provide the NBA Finals match up for the next two or three seasons. And, if people watched the Celtics and Lakers to see Pierce, Garnett, and Allen play against Kobe Bryant and his supporting cast, who won't watch the new Miami Heat?

It goes without saying that LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade will be the most watched, analyzed, and hated team next season. So, if they're put with the Lakers in June, it will be a series that a lot of people will want to see.

So, I apologize to the traditionalists who love the old Celtics-Lakers rivalry, because there is a new storm brewing. In 10 years, everyone will be talking about the modern day rivalry with Los Angeles and Miami.

It goes without saying that this new rivalry will be a breath of fresh air for the NBA and could be a key in getting them even more popularity.

I, for one, can't wait to see them play this out on the court.
