Dwyane Wade Playing Bulls, Other Teams To Get What He Wants From Miami

Bob WarjaJul 3, 2010

Dwyane Wade is not coming to the Chicago Bulls or any other team; he is staying in Miami.

But you can't blame a guy for checking out his options and letting the Heat think he is interested in the Bulls (or another team) so the team signs players he wants in order to ensure he has a championship caliber team around him come next season.

Sure, he could call their bluff if they fail to appease him, but why would they? He's already won a title in South Beach, and Dwayne Wade is Miami at this point.

Yes, Chicago is his home. But part of that home includes an ex-wife he wants nothing to do with.

Meanwhile, Miami has the perfect weather and the man himself has repeatedly said his preference is to re-sign with Miami, where he has spent each of his seven seasons, led the Heat to its lone title in 2006 and become the franchise's career leader in points, assists and steals.

Look, the Heat has offered Wade a contract that would pay him a maximum of about $125 million over six seasons, more than any team can pay him.
"Miami and Chicago have done a great job of putting themselves in position that everyone has talked about,'' he said. "I don't know what attraction it brings to everyone. I don't know what it changes for everyone. What you know right now is situations can change quickly.''

Part of his concern is that only two players are under contract in Miami next season, while the Bulls boast Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah as compliments around Wade, not to mention the outside possibility that LeBron James could sign in Chicago.

But look, I think everyone will be disappointed in the long run.

Sure, Chris Bosh will leave Toronto, but I think that James and Wade will join Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki in re-signing with their current clubs.

These are high-stakes poker games, but they are games after all. And he is playing the Bulls for a fool.
