NBA Free Agency Rumors: New Jersey Nets Front Runners for LeBron James?

Andrew PierluissiJul 2, 2010

Rumors are all over the internet indicating that New Jersey’s meeting with free agent LeBron James could might just made them favorites in lading the two-time MVP in free agency this summer.

James has been linked to several teams in the past few weeks, but the general consensus has been that the Chicago Bulls would be his destination of choice given that he decides to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Let’s take a look how the New Jersey Nets would look like with LeBron James next season.

The team’s line-up would look like this:

PG – Devin Harris

SG – Terrence Williams

SF – LeBron James

PF – Derrick Favors

C – Brooke Lopez

Although the average age in that lineup would be about 22 years, the talent it showcases is tremendous.

Terrence Williams showed how good of an all around player he can be on the floor.

Also, off the bench you will have Courtney Lee, who showed he can be a significant impact player off the bench defensively and offensively.

Rumor has it New Jersey is looking to trade big man Kris Humphreys for a draft pick and cash in order to free up enough cap space to land another free agent. This is also rumored to be part of their plan to recruit James, giving him the choice to select which free agent he wants in town.

The truth is New Jersey is ready to give the keys to their future to LeBron James and have him help build his own team from scratch. This team has options to do many great things.

They can sign veterans like Ray Allen, Josh Childress, Brad Miller, or they can sign a high profile free agent like Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh.

Not to mention, they can also try to package Devin Harris in a trade along with Favors for somebody like Chris Paul, who has been rumored to no longer be untouchable.

Chris Paul for Harris, Favors, and Humphreys?

I’ll take that if it means I can sign Chris Bosh.

Chris Paul, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh to go along with Lopez and perhaps Ray Allen? Might as well call them Team USA.

The New Jersey Nets have the ability to make this team a force to reckon with next season, something that should have LeBron James full of thoughts at this moment.

Who knows what will happen, but whatever does happen, one can say New Jersey tried as hard as they could.

As far as basketball goes, LeBron James should be considering the New Jersey Nets his basketball choice preference as of now.

The team, the owner, the city, and of course Jay-Z, will provide him with whatever he needs to succeed for years to come.

It might not be Paul, Bosh, and Allen, but you can be sure it will be a solid group of players, especially if LeBron is given the choice of selecting them.
