Breaking News: Rudy Gay Agrees To Contract With Memphis

Tony SantorsaJul 1, 2010

Just in, via NBA.com: Rudy Gay has agreed to a five year contract, worth $82 million, with the Memphis Grizzlies.ย

There goes my hopes of having Gay play in Boston.

Rudy Gay is one baller. He is a very dynamic wing that slashes his way to the rim frequently. He would have been a good fit in Boston, but he remains a Grizzly.

Apparently, it is reported that Gay loves it in Memphis. I'm not sure why. Memphis finished a very poor season with a 40-42 record in the Southwestย divisionย of the Westernย Conference.ย

My opinion is that Rudy Gay could be a franchise player. He has the talent and the athleticism to beat just about anyone. It's a shame he's staying in Memphis. Maybe the Grizzlies can build a strong cast for the 23 year old, I don't know.

The Grizzlies have potential, don't get me wrong. They have young, talented players who are on the up-rise like Mike Conley and OJ Mayo, but it's just a matter of maturing.ย

Kind of a disappointing day for me, as I was wishing the Celtics could pursue the 6-8 forward. But, I'll have to deal with watching him play in Memphis for another five years.

I can see Rudy Gay being a very successful player, but we'll see if he can accomplish it in Memphis.ย
