With the free-agency market ready to open in less than 48 hours, the clock is ticking on teams to pitch to the top tier players, on why their team is the best suitor for that particular player.
With teams such as the, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, and Miami Heat, all looking to either trade players, release players, or buy out on their remaining contracts, so their are able to get more than one, max contract player.
The New Jersey Nets are at it again, by sending forward Yi Jianlian to the Washington Wizards for Quinton Ross. Ross' contract us up at the end of next year, and the Nets might just buy him out.
The reason for the trade, was of course, to get more and more cap-space. To be exact an extra three million. Which now, puts the Nets at around $30 million under the salary cap. And what comes with that is the ability to max out two, or even three of the top players in this year's free agent class.
As for the Wizards, it is another good pick up for them. Yi is a young veteran player that has been in the league for a few years now, and he still has tonnes to prove. The Wizards are adding piece by piece to their team for the next year, and years to come. The Wizards themselves have enough cap to add one to two max player deals. The Wizards could be one of those max players away, from being a playoff team.
Wizards roster as it stands at $28,000,000 with an 11,000,000 team option on Josh Howard, and a 4,500,000 qualifying option to Randy Foye, as well as a guaranteed rookie contract soon to hit the books to first overall pick, John Wall.
PG: John Wall (Kirk Hinrich)
SG: Gilbert Arenas (Nick Young)
SF: Yi Jianlian
PF: Andray Blatche (Al Thornton)
C: Javale McGee
Not a bad group of players to build around for the future, and not a bad team to attract future players to their team this off-season.
