LeBron James Says Stephen Curry Deserves $400M Contract, Questions Salary Cap
Even with the NBA's rising salary cap, Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is still not a fan of putting a limit on how much players can earn.
After Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle posted a note about how much Stephen Curry has helped increase the value of the Golden State Warriors, James offered this response on Twitter:
Curry's agent, Jeff Austin, told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday at the start of the NBA's free-agent moratorium that his client agreed to a five-year extension with the Warriors worth $201 million.
ESPN.com's Kevin Pelton did a breakdown of Curry's true worth to the Warriors if there were no salary cap, arriving at a figure between $53-63 million per season based on numerous factors, including player production and the cost/value of a win.
The NBA announced the salary cap for next season has been set at $99.093 million, a jump of nearly $5 million from last year's $94.14 million.
Prior to agreeing on his extension with the Warriors, Curry was one of the NBA's biggest bargains with a deal that paid him $44 million over four years. His average annual salary under his reported new deal will pay him over $40 million per season.
