Markieff Morris Stepped out Before Game-Winner vs. Blazers, Per NBA L2M Report

A last-second shot by Markieff Morris against the Portland Trail Blazers that gave the Washington Wizards a 125-124 overtime win Saturday night shouldn't have counted, according to the NBA.

In the last-two-minute report from the Wizards-Blazers game issued by the NBA, Morris' foot was determined to be out of bounds when he caught the pass and should have been ruled a turnover.

After the game, Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard said the officials told him they couldn't review the play.

"They said 'We can't review it,'" Lillard said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "I guess that's the rules but I don't understand why we have all these cameras and all this technology in the arena if we're not going to be able to review a play that determines a win or a loss."

Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic was also critical of how the officials handled things at the end of the game. 

"The referees did not do a great job tonight, I think," he said, via Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune. "We tried to win and they did not allow us. I hope they feel bad."

As Kelly Dwyer of Ball Don't Lie noted, the shot itself is reviewable but not the play.

The loss dropped Portland's record to 28-36 overall. Despite being under .500, the Trail Blazers are in the mix for a playoff spot. They are two games behind the Denver Nuggets for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. 

It was also a huge win for the Wizards, who moved into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, percentage points ahead of the Boston Celtics. 

Morris still gets credit for the game-winner. The NBA has acknowledged the mistake from its officials, though that's little comfort to a Portland team fighting for its playoff life with 18 games left to play.
