Craig Sager Cleared to Spend Night Out of Hospital for 1st Time in 85 Days
Craig Sager has been receiving treatment for leukemia, but his son, Craig Sager Jr., noted Wednesday the broadcaster got to spend a rare night out of the hospital:
Keely Diven of CSN Mid-Atlantic wrote Sager has had leukemia since 2014 and suffered a relapse in March that prevented him from traveling to Rio de Janeiro to cover basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

However, Sager Jr. pointed out an anonymous donor allowed Sager to receive his third bone marrow and stem cell transplant:
Sager’s colleague and former NBA great, Charles Barkley, recently visited him in the hospital and commented on the experience, per NBA on TNT:
Diven cited the National Cancer Institute and said the transplant helps stem cells in the bone marrow that chemotherapy and radiation damaged or destroyed.
ESPN.com noted the broadcaster missed 11 months because of treatment and the bone marrow transplant he previously received from his son but did return to the sideline in March 2015. Despite his return, Sager revealed to HBO in April his cancer wasn’t in remission any longer.
Sager received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYs and accepted the honor from Vice President Joe Biden.
