Stephen Jackson Says Metta World Peace Speaks Daily with Fan Who Threw Beer Cup
Metta World Peace has always been a unique character.
For starters, he was known as Ron Artest up until 2011.
During Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s The Jump, retired NBA veteran Stephen Jackson revealed that World Peace speaks daily with the fan who threw a cup of beer at the former Indiana Pacers forward during 2004’s infamous Malice at the Palace brawl.
“They keep in touch,” Jackson said. “They’re real good friends. ... I don’t know how they’re still friends, but it’s amazing.”
Amazing indeed.
The NBA suspended World Peace for the rest of the 2004 season, which cost him roughly $5 million, per ESPN. Jackson received the second-harshest punishment at 30 games.
“Ron’s that type of guy, though,” Jackson added. “You never know what to expect from Ron.”
