"I'll live," Shumpert told Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com after the game against the Knicks.
Shumpert Can't Shake Injury Issues
The guard had two points, three assists and two rebounds in 14 minutes before the injury.
This is another blow for Shumpert after an injury-plagued 2015-16 campaign. He had his knee drained before the playoffs, dealt with a shoulder stinger in February and underwent wrist surgery before the regular season started, ultimately playing 54 regular-season contests.
Shumpert averaged 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and one steal per game last season and shot a career-worst 29.5 percent from three-point range. It was a disappointing campaign on the offensive side, although he is still one of Cleveland’s best defenders and an important presence on the floor.
According to NBA.com, the Cavaliers had a defensive rating of 100.7 when Shumpert was on the court during the regular season last season, compared to a defensive rating of 103.0 when he was off it. He helps take some of the defensive pressure off LeBron James, which allows the team’s best player to thrive on the offensive end late in games.
