Latest on Parsons' Timeline to Return

Friday, Dec. 2

The Grizzlies announced Parsons will not play in the team's games through Dec. 10 and will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days.

Chandler Off to Slow Start with Grizzlies

Parsons, in the midst of his first season with the Grizzlies, is averaging 7.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Memphis signed Parsons to a max contract during the offseason after he enjoyed two productive but injury-plagued seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.

Parsons put up 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest last season; however, he missed 21 games and Dallas' lone playoff series primarily because of a torn meniscus. He also missed 16 regular-season games and all but one of the Mavs' playoff contests in 2014-15.

Despite Parsons' inability to stay healthy in recent years, Memphis took a big chance on the 28-year-old.

His impact in all facets of the game is undeniable, but it is fair to wonder whether the Grizzlies have buyer's remorse now that he is set to potentially miss more time.

Parsons' ailment is especially problematic since the Grizzlies don't have many other reliable options behind him. An increased role for James Ennis or perhaps veteran Vince Carter is possible, but they don't bring the same all-around skill set to the table.

Memphis has a strong core with Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Mike Conley, but unless Parsons can get back onto the court and bring his diverse brand of basketball to the table, the Grizzlies are unlikely to be anything more than a middling playoff team in the Western Conference.
