LeBron James Becomes 6th Player in NBA Playoffs History to Score 5,000 Points

Alec NathanJun 16, 2015

LeBron James has been a one-man wrecking crew throughout the NBA Finals, and he padded his historic postseason with another eye-popping accomplishment during the Cleveland Cavaliers' Game 6 showdown against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

Toward the end of the second quarter, James notched the 5,000th postseason point of his career:

At 30 years old, he became the youngest player to join the exclusive club, per ESPN Stats & Info:

According to Basketball-Reference.com, James joined Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan as the only players in league history to tally 5,000 points in the playoffs.

No player in league history has topped 6,000, but at James' current pace, it's not hard to envision his throttling toward the top of the leaderboard as the Cavaliers seek to reign supreme in the Eastern Conference for years to come.

In the Finals, James has shouldered an unprecedented burden as both a scorer and a passer with Kyrie Irving (fractured kneecap) and Kevin Love (shoulder surgery) sidelined.

"He's carrying a historic load, having used 41.1 percent of Cleveland's plays in the Finals, surpassing Jordan's 1998 record (40.7 percent) for Finals usage since turnovers were tracked," ESPN.com's Kevin Pelton wrote. "And Jordan didn't have the same kind of playmaking role in that series. James has already handed out 62 assists to Jordan's 24 in 1998."

After telling reporters, "I'm confident because I'm the best player in the world," following Cleveland's 104-91 Game 5 loss, according to the Los Angeles Times' Matt Wilhalme, it's not hard to see why James was so forward with reporters.

His production throughout the postseason with a short-handed Cavaliers team has been nothing short of remarkable, and he's single-handedly squashed analytical convention by slowing games down and isolating at absurd rates to keep Cleveland competitive.

If this year has been any indication, there will be plenty more postseason milestones to come.
