Kevin Durant Wants ESPN's Bill Simmons to 'Get Over' James Harden Trade

Kyle NewportApr 5, 2015

Basketball analysts and fans like to wonder what could have been had the Oklahoma City Thunder not traded James Harden. As for Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, he just wants everyone to move on.

Oklahoma City made the NBA Finals during the 2011-12 season, losing to the Miami Heat in five games. With a core of Durant, Harden and Russell Westbrook, it looked like the Thunder would be in line to make numerous Finals appearances. However, the organization was put in a tough spot that offseason, as Harden was set to become a restricted free agent the following summer unless the Thunder inked him to an extension by Oct. 31.

Unable to lock Harden up, Oklahoma City was forced to choose between possibly losing him in free agency or trading him and getting something in return no matter what. The Thunder chose the latter, shipping him to the Houston Rockets for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and multiple draft picks.

Now, Harden has grown into a legitimate MVP candidate and has led Houston to one of the NBA's best records this season. With the Rockets and the Thunder meeting in Oklahoma City on Sunday, it provided an opportunity to revisit the trade.

ESPN's Bill Simmons decided to reflect back on the deal before the game:

After seeing Simmons' tweets, Durant decided to respond:

It's scary to imagine what could've been with Oklahoma City. Durant is the reigning NBA MVP, and Westbrook and Harden are among the leading contenders for this year's award. That dynamic trio would have given the Thunder one incredible Big Three.

However, Durant has moved on and isn't wondering about the "what ifs." Based on his tweet to Simmons, he wants everyone else to do the same too.
