Pistons' Andre Drummond Apologizes for Snapchatting While Driving 97 MPH

Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond is a talented young basketball player, but in order to keep his career going, he will need to make smarter decisions off the court.

He knows that and is committed to making sure he doesn't repeat previous mistakes.

The 21-year-old Piston posted a picture on Snapchat over the weekend that he wishes he could take back. He posted a picture from behind the wheel—while going 97 miles per hour.

The speed limit in Michigan is 70 mph.

Not only is the speeding a cause for concern, but taking a picture while driving is an even worse mistake. That Snapchat photo should be concerning to the Pistons, because it could have resulted in a serious accident.

Before Sunday's game, Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy gave his thoughts on his player's actions, per Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

"

I know you're young and you think you're indestructible, but for the people that care about you, it's scary as hell.

I don't want to wake up and read about Andre Drummond in an accident. That's the issue to me.

"

Nobody wants to see news like that scroll across the television or pop up on the Internet, so hopefully the young center received Van Gundy's message.

To his credit, Drummond has owned up to the photo and admits everything about the situation was a mistake. Here's what he said about the Snapchat photo, per Ellis:

"

"Yes," said Drummond when asked if he was the subject of the photo at the Palace on Saturday night. "It was a silly mistake. I'll own up to it and move on from here. It won't happen again."

Asked why he was driving at 97 miles per hour, Drummond said: "Silly mistake on my behalf; it won't happen again."

Drummond is hardly the only person in the world who has driven at an excessive speed or taken a picture while driving. That doesn't excuse his actions, however.

Drummond and the Pistons should be thankful that he was not involved in an accident as a result of his actions. Maybe this will serve as a wake-up call and make him more focused on the road while driving in the future.
