It has been an incredible year for the Portland Trail Blazers, who are well on their way to the playoffs in the deep Western Conference thanks to the efforts of LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard.

Blazers fans may be holding their breath after Aldridge was injured during the team's game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, as Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News reported:

The Blazers also provided an update via Twitter:

CSNNW provided a discouraging update after the game:

Trail Blazers digital reporter Casey Holdahl added to that with more encouraging news:

This is certainly disappointing news for Portland fans, as Aldridge was still trying to get his rhythm back from an earlier groin injury. Regarding that ailment, Wesley Matthews told Jason Quick of The Oregonian: “He’s going to get it. Any time you take some time off due to injury, you are going to have to work your way back into rhythm, game shape. But we’re not worried about him.”

Joe Freeman of The Oregonian pointed out why this injury could be of more serious concern:

Looking ahead, Portland is in the middle of a logjam in the Western Conference standings, as the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors are all within a few games of each other. Losing Aldridge for an extended amount of time would be costly as the playoffs approach.

Even a small losing streak would send the Trail Blazers plummeting down the seeding line. They may be within striking distance of the top teams, but they are also only four games ahead of Dallas in the No. 8 spot.

A very difficult opening series in the playoffs could be the result of another Aldridge injury.
