Spelling Bee Star Brings Heavy Swag with Glittery LeBron James 'Chalk Toss'

Gabe ZaldivarJun 6, 2018

Were you amped to watch the Scripps National Spelling Bee? Well, you likely were after watching an adorable kid harness his inner LeBron James to deliver a magical "chalk toss."

Business Insider managed to capture the best moment from a feature ESPN did on 12-year-old Gokul Venkatachalam.

But first, we will remind you about the chalk celebration made famous by the Miami Heat star.

Here, Venkatachalam explodes some glitter for your entertainment. It seems that kind of introduction is the perfect way to get you focused on spelling difficult words on the biggest stage of them all.

I sincerely hope this catches on. From spelling bees to the NBA playoffs, we need far more glitter in the sports world.

Unfortunately, we have to deliver some bad news to those who now have young Venkatachalam marked as their favorite in this year's spelling bee competition.

Business Insider is also running a live blog on all the spelling action and reports that the Missouri native was ousted by a word that means "peculiar to a limited area." They state, "DOWN GOES GOKUL. Oof, misspells 'epichoric' (forgets the 'h')."

With that, everyone's favorite was shown the door early amid a field of highly intelligent young spellers.

If Venkatachalam looks familiar, it's because this was his second attempt at the top prize. KSDK reports he was at last year's bee and placed 10th overall.

While he was hoping a little King James intro might do some good, he has absolutely nothing to hang his head about. The report continues:

"

This year, he's already spelled two words correctly and answered two vocabulary questions. The words he spelled were "accommodate" and "sylph." He correctly defined the words "gulden" and "equilibrium."

"

An already daunting task was made all the more difficult this year as contestants were asked to define a set of words and heard the dreaded elimination bell the second they misspelled a word.

With that, one of the best personalities at the annual competition was sent off. With 12 more spellers remaining, we hold onto hope that the next Rebecca Sealfon is among them.

Hit me up on Twitter and we can Bee it up together:
