Lakers' Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson Engaged According to Ecstatic Buss Tweet

Gabe ZaldivarJan 3, 2013

It may have taken longer than a decade, but Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson are finally ready to tie the knot.

The Lakers executive vice president tweeted to the masses her new bling in the form of an engagement ring from her beau, Phil Jackson.

The former Lakers head coach and arguably one of the best to ever sit on the sideline is ready to settle down once again. Here is the tweet from Jeanie Buss:

"

Twitter family - Phil finally gave me that ring I wanted!:-) twitpic.com/bs8xc5

— Jeanie Buss (@JeanieBuss) January 4, 2013"

While she doesn't mention engagement or marriage, we assume from her message that this is indeed a sign of the big commitment.

The two have been living together for quite some time, and Buss even delved into their relationship in a 2011 Forbes interview, saying she fell in love with Jackson 10 years prior.

In the exchange, she mentioned Jackson—who is already divorced with five children—was no longer the marrying type.

"

I wanted to get married. That’s who I am. Phil is of a generation that probably would have been happier never getting married. He just doesn’t want to get married again; it’s not that he doesn’t want to marry me. It took me awhile to understand that, and I’m fine with it now. We’ve been together over 10 years. This relationship has been my longest and most successful. So I’m very happy.

"

Things change, and it seems Jackson, who is now 67 years old and retired from coaching, is ready to settle down once again.

While Buss (51) has always been very public about her relationship and takes to Twitter often, the two have managed to keep their romance separate from the ongoing Lakers drama.

Recently, Jackson was pegged to coach the Lakers once again following the firing of Mike Brown, but the job was instead given to Mike D'Antoni.

While Jackson insinuated with a laugh that he no longer had an interest in coaching the Lakers in a recent exchange with reporters, his relationship with Buss remains strong.

Now, with near certainty that his coaching life is behind him, he is ready to make an enormous change in his life and will marry once again.
