Never doubt a WNBA game can invoke a great deal of passion and Twitter lunacy, because former NBA player Shelden Williams blew up the social media sphere after his wife failed to get the last shot in a conference final game.
BuzzFeed spotted the one Twitter feed that was extremely passionate about the WNBA conference finals matchup between the LA Sparks and Minnesota Lynx.
There might be a few of you who missed the game on Sunday night, so let me fill you in before diving into some angry tweets.
With six seconds remaining, the Sparks inbounded the ball, trailing 80-79 with the finals on the line. Their best player and a woman who had 33 points on the game, failed to touch the ball. BuzzFeed has video for those who have never seen a WNBA game.
It's like Kobe Bryant getting ignored in crunch time.
The Sparks missed the shot and the opportunity to play the Sun or Fever in the WNBA Finals. The frustration really hit Parker's husband, former New Jersey Nets player Shelden Williams, particularly hard.
Here is the night according to dear 'ol hubby as seen on Twitter.
First the exuberance before the storm.
She really was putting on a clinic and had just hit a couple of buckets back-to-back to give the Sparks the lead with 1:31 left in the game, via Fox Sports.
His wife fails to get the crucial last touch of the game and we have tweets like this.
How do you have a do or die situation and have the ball and the player who has it going doesn't even get a look to win the game??— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
Doesn't make sense!!!! Any other superstar would have the ball in their hands on any other team!!! And this one doesn't even get a look???— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
33points 15 rebounds 4 blks and plays every sec of the game but can't get the ball when the game is on the line baffles me!!!— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
Somewhere, I imagine holes being punched in walls at this point.
This is the stupidest and most selfish act you can do!!!— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
Sparks fans may find themselves agreeing with this one.
A player who has been carrying the team with the hot hand all game and can't determine the outcome of the game by giving her the ball??— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
Lastly, Williams brings this blast.
Another testimony of how common sense isn't so common!!! Ridiculous!!!— Shelden Williams (@SheldenWilliams) October 7, 2012
At this point, we imagine Williams took a cold shower, had a few chill pills and came down from his conniption fit
Parker nearly got the Sparks to the finals, but it will be the final play that will be talked about all offseason.
Well, talked about in Williams' home at least.
