Lakers Bring in Jodie Meeks to Strengthen Championship Run
What a crazy offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers. With fans almost expecting Dwight Howard to be traded to the Lakers, most had already moved on to other rumors. And the Lakers didn't disappoint. No sooner had they traded for the Magic superstar than word broke that they have agreed to terms with shooting guard Jodie Meeks on a two-year deal, according to ESPNLA's Dave McMenamin.
Many have been clamoring for the Lakers to sign a shooting guard to back up Kobe Bryant, and the Lakers apparently agreed. No word yet on what this means for their young projects, but this is a move that only reinforces their win-now mentality.
Meeks will be solid in the backup role. The bench will now feature Steve Blake or Chris Duhon, Meeks, Andrew Goudelock, Devin Ebanks, Antawn Jamison, Earl Clark and Jordan Hill or Robert Sacre.
We don't know yet either if the Lakers are even done yet. They have shown this offseason that all the stops are being pulled as they push for another banner (or three).
Lost in the Howard hoopla is yet another move for the Lakers to bolster their bench and provide as little drop off as possible what the starters leave to rest.
Meeks obviously was suddenly very interested in this surging Lakers team and wanted to be a part of their all or nothing mentality as they push for banner 17.
Credit Mitch Kupchak for another victory in recruiting.
But really, what else would we expect from him by now?
